The "Marui-Clone" Spetznaz Review - Part 2 |

Folks, I would personally like to say sorry that it took so long for the final part. It took a while for DS to do the hand off so I could take it apart for him, and then took a while to get the replacement parts to come in.
My first impressions, this in no aspect is a "clone" to me. Clone means an exact copy (rough translation), right? Well, you look at this gun and feel it, yeah, its got a bit of heft, but thats because of the huge weight at the top of the gun! Big long metal rod inside the receiver gives it heft. Other than that, you've got... da dum duuuumhhhhh! PLASTIC GEARBOX! A true clone would have even a pot metal gearbox inside of it, weak or not. But without further adeue...... Part 2 Taking it down to JUST ABOUT the point that Downslide had it, it leaves us with this. We can see lots of plastic sticking out, of course. Taking out a few screws here and there on the Ak leaves you with this. Bright orange doesn't do too well with the flash, but you get the point. Going a little further... This I am impressed by. It is infact, almost an exact copy of the TM Ak hopup unit, and will actually accept precision barrels. YAY!!!! Plastic Gearbox.... Not so pretty. Well folks, there it is. The plastic gearbox. Isn't it beautiful?
Ticking time bomb waiting to break. As we can see, thats even plastic. Its sturdy enough though, it will hold up for a while. How long? Maybe a year at best for your average airsofter. Gearbox halves. Motor: POS motor. It works at the same speed with a 8.4v 30 amp discharge battery, as it does with a 9.6v 30 amp discharge battery. It truly is a piece of ____. Trigger: Probably one of the only metal pieces in the gearbox except for the screws and motor. Spur, Sector, and Bevel Gears: All plastic, these wouldn't stand much. Maybe thats why the motor only has one speed. Anti-reversial latch: Notice how it is backwards? Well its put in on the opposite side of the gearbox as what TM's is. Spring and spring guide: Forgot theres, another substantial metal piece, the spring. The spring guide though... wow. I can't believe they claim this to be a clone. They can't even get a few more metal parts in the gun, let alone a metal gearbox (or for you slangish people... MGB) Piston: Do you see how long this thing is? Its longer than a G&P Sr-25 LONG piston. Air seal nozzle, Cylinder, Cylinder head, tappet plate... ALL IN ONE!!!: I'm surprised Marui hasn't used this idea... its like... godly. NOT!!! Its not even smooth inside the cylinder part, its.... well, very roughly textured. Alright, now that you can see for yourself that this is an actual 2% clone of a TM Ak Beta Spets, I have a few words. If your just going to do your average backyard wars, or plinking in the backyard at cans, well this might be something for you. For your, even mild, average airsofter, I'd stray away from this. Even as a beginner gun. Sad enough to say, I'd recommend a UTG over this one. The plastic, let me comment on its quality, is VERY brittle, can break easily, and will probably, at a moments notice. It is nothing that should be tempered with, and nothing that should be attempted to be upgraded. Leave the thing alone and hang it on a wall, thats about all its good for. Now onto the good news. I have already worked it out with DS, and arranged a metal gearbox to be fitted into the gun it self. But this isnt' just your average swap over, but rather a build a gearbox, or buy a pre-built one and fabricate it into it. It will take a little bit of money, and a minor amount of time, but it will be done by springtime, if not early winter (depends on how he gets me the parts, lol). The TM gearbox does fit too. It will fit very nicely into the spets unit, and with the almost exact copy of the hopup unit, it will preform GREATLY I feel. Reviewer : A-Ron Reviewed : 14 Nov 2006 |
