View Full Version : Commando Paintball in Abrams
I have taken it upon myself to try out the expierence of trying to host a game again, and I'm wondering if the majority of members would be willing to commute out to Abrams, WI to play at the Commando Paintball facility. I dont' care that it is a paintball place either, its a change in scenery and I wanna see who all would be interested.
ALSO, E.M.R. will be hosting a smaller type skrimish there during late, LATE, winter early spring when the snow is melting. So I'm throwin that idea out there right now, but no date is/will be confirmed for a while. Most likely late March early April, depending on how long snow sticks around for.
So, I'm started up a poll to see if its at all possible to get a game out there, large scale milsim type game too, nonetheless. As close to milsim as I can get it at least.
Although I'd like to see a new field and have some new scenery I think the commute would be a little too long. That is unless it was some HUGE op.
I'm just gonna throw this out there for "the long commuters". Tank lives in Minnesota if I remember right. Several people from Green Bay go to Gary's on a regular basis. Jones comes up from Illinois. Many people have to make a LONG commute to get to Gary's and would like to see some people come to them once in a while especially to a decent field. That said I can understand the people used to living in Milwaukee and having a half hour commute not to want to travel.

i dont see what every one complains about when you only live in milwuakee... we commute to gary's all the time from way up here in green bay... and there are a ton of us...
maybe it is me but alot of us show more support for the game than most of you people who sit there and cry cuz you have to drive that extra hour to get to a place...

Following that logic if you moved to Superior and drove to Gary's you'd show even more support. For me there's more to it than "oh it's only an hour more". Speaking for myself that extra hour may mean something, especially when it comes to coordinating with family duties and plans. I would be willing to drive to an event if I knew more of what the field is like (hint:get some field pics and/or maps), who's running the game, how easy it is to get to, places to stay at if it's far enough away, current gas prices, weather, what day it's on.....

To kind of second what nemesis is saying here, I do NOT live in Green Bay. I live outside of it about a half an hour (going the speed limit). It is somewhat of a commute to get to Gary's place. Thing is though, ITS WORTH IT to go there. While I'd love to live in the Milwaukee area, and have not as far of a distance to drive, sometimes its that drive that is the fun part, lol. Ask some E.M.R. guys about the drive to and from the field, they'll tell you what I'm talking about.

I aslo agree with this. I have had bust my butt every time I've wanted to go to an Op to make sure that everything is going to flow right. The guys that ride with me know what I mean when I say, its not just hoppin in the car and driving down there. It is a planning that actually takes effort. The travel distance, gas prices, weather, what day, and a few other factors do take A LOT of effect of what is going to go down that day.
It takes us a little over an hour to get to Gary's. And yeah like Razor said an extra hour on each end of the day can really make things hard sometimes.

It takes an hour and a half to get to gary's field, as long as someone's driving, it legal and we know how to get there its good. Its alittle boring going there, but when we get there its all worth it... & the ride back + walls-mart is always good.
Cant imagine what the smell is going to be like when we drive back in the winter; windows up. :o

Being someone who has driven on numerous occassions to Illinois and Iowa foe airsoft I'd drive 2 & 1/2 hours given a "worthy attraction". If it's simply another field without any real differentiating quaities or some other attraction the the WGF and the Lair work for me. So, tell me why I want to drive that far and I'll make the trip.
A couple pictures of the place from the websites homepage.

giant bean bags (http://www.commandopaintballsports.com/index.php?page=pictures&link=12)? looks kinda like a speedball field to me...unless there's other parts not represented in the pictures (which, from the field description (http://www.commandopaintballsports.com/index.php?page=faq), appears to be the case). not that it's super important, but does anyone have an idea what the acreage is at Commando?
on a side note, i wonder if a 'speedball' field would work for quick pistol-only battles or something.... :o
We have actually done pistol only battles on one of their two speedball "fields" but they are more like courts. The actual acerage is unkown to me at this point in time, but they DO have a field w/ a three story bunker, a couple two story bunkers, "dug underground" bunkers, tires, baracades up all over, some woods and open fields, and some other thigns that ARE NOT in those pictures, all in one field. Its quite a nice area of land to play on, I have played airsoft there before and the owner actually liked the idea of airsoft and took a liking to our guns while we were there. The land is suitible for airsoft and kind of replicates an "urban" environment of sorts.
Last time i was there though, they did not have those red and yellow "bean bag" structures that you see though.

Uh, I don't think so. I'm not into skirmishing in the midst of inflatables.

I have to be honest, The pictures don't excite me to go. I will agree with professor, unless there is some element that Apoc, WGR or the Dragon's lair doesn't have for the milwaukee area people, good chance you will not see a migration north for an event. And it is nothing personal, it;s just fact. Most of us only get so many opportunities a month to play, and a lot goes into the decision of which ones to go to.

Thosen pic's are crap, they dont really show the field at all. I and the rest of E.M.R. hosted a 10 man skirm there this spring and it was awesome. We had the whole field to ourselves (which is actually quite large). and it was $15 per person to rent the WHOLE THING, ALL DAY!!!! Sriosly, last time we were thyere at 10:00AM and we left at about 7:00pm. 9 hours of gaming, id drive for that.
I like the field, it's ok.
O-yeah, pistols only on the speedball field was fun.
Not to mention every one should show up just to see my sexy body.
Yay!

I played paintball there when it was called T&M Sports. It was a pretty decent field and has expanded since then. Not a bad place. I am of the opinion that even if it has the same things that all the other fields have, it is nice to play on NEW land instead of the same thing all the time. IMHO

And if you ever get tired in the middle of a game you can just take a nap in one of those beanbag chairs they got out on the field.

I could get us I.C.E. guys out there
I could get at least one Echo guy.
This poll is mainly to see if I would be able to rally enough support to get in contact with the owner again and see if he is interested in letting us rent out the field for a day again. Time I would probably make this skirmish is early - late spring, when the weather is just turning nice out. I thought about a winter skirmish but I just don't see it happening.
that place looks cool...
if your a paintballer!!!!
yeah, i woulndt make the trip. I mean, Apoc is horrible with the paint everywhere but it is a huge field with great attractions. I dont see anything in this field too exciting. Sorry
I'll try to get over there and see if he is cool with me taking a few photos of the place to put up because yes, those pictures quite frankly suck!

RTO I'm glad your trying to find a new place for us to place some games at! I've been to Commando when I played paintball years ago. The field was sweet at that time, I don't know how much it's changed but I'd be up for going there again. Added bonus that for once it's closer for us. To all you people who don't think it's worth the drive that's your decision and your welcome to it, but you may miss one helluva field.

RTO - I wasn't tryin to be an arse ya know, but given the pictures of the field, it didn't have much attraction. If you get some that better illustrates the areas we'd have access to and it's wooded without "inflatables" I'd reconsider my position.
Oh no, no offense taken at all :D. I know, those pictures were misleading, I'll be the first to say so, but once I do get some pictures of the field I will put them up. And its not even really the closeness that it is for me/us here in GB, its the fact that its an alternative I feel. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Gary's field, but you gotta change stuff up every now and then. And for me, the Dragon's Lair is a bit to far away for my liking. But we'll see what happens once I get the pics.

I.C.E. is always down for a close game set one up RTO we will be there
The pictures really dont do it justice.. It has alot of variations.. such as hills, 3 story buildings, dense cover, thin cover.
Back when i was a recruit between my junior and senior year in high school, i was assigned to referee for the day along with a few other guys.. (at the time the rest of the unit was at annual training in fort McCoy).
We had a blast. Granted it was paintball (I didn't even know about airsoft at the time).
But for airsoft, the field is a bit smaller than the War Game Room and Apoch. Probably just 15 achors. I probably would get bored a bit.. doesn't really have that many places to be "tactical" as the wooded area is basically just tall ever-greens with no natural cover on the ground besides the small hills, and man maid "bunkers" and cable spools.
Its probably a good place for small games for like 10man teams.. other than that, it would feel crowded..
I mean it would be nice to have a place to play at that is closer to green bay but the War Game Room and Apoch have more of a natural feel.. At the war game room, the only open areas are in the field, and the small areas around the structures.. and the same for Apoch.. granted it has bigger open areas, (and more of them) but it still provides natural cover in the dense areas..
I would play at commando if it was a bit bigger and had more dense natural cover..

yay! u know im in of coarse.
I was informed that the fiedls were all expanded when it came into new ownership, there isnt much in the way of "natural cover", but there is a shazload of bunkers, walls and towers up to three stories tall with roof access! I was there last spring, and it was ALOT of fun even though we only had 10ppl.
The cost was like $15 per person, but we had that entire place to ourselves ALL DAY, we were there from likt 10:00AM to 6PM. Plus the owner grilled us burgers.

You must have moved, cause this field is ways north of green bay and you live in the West bend area.
It sounds like fun, but a little too far for me.
ha ha ha.. i'll make it worth your wile Mr. Crow ;) lol, j/k
tis a bit far, but i'm going to be checking out the field this weekend to see if a game is worth it anymore. i don't know how the field has improved or gone to crap over the past year so i wanna check it out first and then i'll post some stuff here for us to be happy about
So when are we doing this???
