Hello everyone,
The event date has been set on the calendar for quite some time now, but the official event thread has not been started yet. There have been lots of questions about this year's game, so I thought I'd start the thread for now. Gryphon, the event coordinator, will be able to post more updates soon.
For full event info, check out the event website at the link below. Official storyline, 2010 rules changes, and registration to be announced.
http://freefallgame.com/index.html
*** Please note that I am not the event coordinator, but I assist Gryphon (Todd) in the event series, all official questions should be directed towards him.

Because you weren't there. Also, it seems that the pictures with womans in them have a lot of the same people in them. Also Zenthane, last year they did host a WAA AEC before the game.

More event info and some videos (working on them now) should be up soon... thanks for the patience, everyone. Todd is a busy man and I think he is out of the state teaching right now.
There will be some rules changes regarding some parts of the game, so make sure to check the rules once we update the site and this thread. I don't want to speculate what those will be, but I know some of them will get tweaked a bit.
ya, he must be busy. Its a month away and pre reg isnt open yet.

OK, I have FINALLY sent the updated rules set and the 2010 Freefall4 background info to Ryan at Lupine Productions. SHINY!! It should all be up on the freefallgame.com website soon. Preregistration should also be open by the end of this week. Preregistration will be $30+a small PayPal fee and will include your choice of bonus game cash, a Cortex Uplink card, or a Medipak. Registration at the door will be $25 for one day, and $40 for the weekend. In other news, we may have a bellydancing troupe to grace the Freefall bazaar area again this year. YES! I will post details as soon as they have confirmed.

Hello fellow Firefly-ians (yeah I know that isn't even a word),
The updated event rules are available at www.freefallgame.com at the Details page. Please read these carefully... there are some new rules and tweaks this year.
- Added Detailed Apoc Specific Safety Rules
- The BANG kill mechanic has been removed (you still cannot shoot within 10 feet, but now you cannot kill anyone with a BANG kill either... bring your stunners and melee weapons for the close-in stuff!)
- Slight update to the walking wounded rules
- Full Auto now banned during night play
- Dead players now must serve time as a slave before making another character instead of spending time as a Reaver
- Updated Reaver Rules (Now an NPC role)
Pre-registration is now officially OPEN! You may pre-reg now by going to Register page at the www.freefallgame.com site.
I am finishing up some videos from some footage last year... stay tuned... :)

There also appears to be no team-uniforms listed as of yet. Hm. This no engagement at ten feet should open it up for some nice knife kills, or getting shot from really close by startled folks.
Kerrik13
10 Jun 10, 06:08 PM
Freefall does not have team uniforms at all. It is up to the players to join factions or work different angles. Some merc groups are themed and coordinate a look and some others are more open to whatever the players want.
The biggest uniformed faction is the Alliance, which we've set as a requirement of navy blue BDU uniform and black tactical gear. Pro-Alliance players who don't have this equipment can join the Alliance Militia, which is basically whatever uniform you want but you wear a navy blue armband with an Alliance logo on it.
This game really is what you make of it... players used to hardcore fighting might get bored with the game because it is a LARP, combat is a tool to accomplish your characters goals, not the focus of the game, so the style is different. I like it more because it is not JUST combat based, that everyone has their own story, goals, and ambitions. It is also the event that, hands down, has the most backstabbing, double crossing, and selling out of anything I've ever seen. Everyone is out to make money and lots of allegiances are formed and broken depending on what is going on. Lots of fun... I encourage anyone who has really enjoyed role playing at an event or someone who goes the extra mile to get into costume/character for an event to give it a try.

I do not recall any half-camo requirement for the cultists last year (I certainly was not wearing any). We did have the shemaghs and forehead gems (though it was a hopeless effort to keep them affixed).

11 Jun 10, 03:29 AM
Thanks, Kerrick, for stepping up with the posts here whilst I was occupied. You da xiong-can shou-sho!
I'm now in offical Freefalling mode from now to Game On.
OK, questions:
Kerrick is working on scheduling an AEC for underage players on Saturday, possibly around 2pm. (edit)
Short controlled 3-round-type bursts from support weapons ONLY will be allowed for night play. Please bear in mind that nighttime engagement distances tend to be much closer than perceived.
I have requested that members of the Followers of the True Path cult wear a green shemagh to demonstrate their piety (we can skip the forehead jewels this year, although it might be cool if some rank system of forehead marks was used - but I'll leave the particulars of that up to the High Archangel Rekkon.) Kerrick and Phantasamo have the Alliance Federal trooper uniforms and Reaver dress code well in hand. All other dress codes are up to personal taste, or the individual factions or mercenary groups - rent the Firefly and Serenity DVDs and give 'em another watch for inspiration ("Aye, Aye, Cap'n Tightpants, Sir!" "Don't you 'sir' me, you pantywaist idjit, Freefall ain't no black tie affair!!") Dressing tha part is part of tha fun. Shiny, dong ma?
Everyone who is not serving time as slave labor will need to keep their game IDs handy to use the bank and the Cortex, as well as to pass searches for runaway slaves. Ship's crews will need to have their papers in order. The Feds will almost certainly be doing random weapons permit checks. Dexeldyne employees will be issued workplace IDs.
We will have at least three transport ships in play, two confirmed salvage operators (one operating out of Natasha the armored skiff,) and the Alliance Federal Task Force 7 will have their own "Danger Ranger" skiff. CWC, The Company, the Ataraxian Volunteer Militia, the Dexeldyne Mine Security Force, and the Followers of the True Path are all confirmed to be coming in force this year. Reavers will be portrayed by dedicated NPCs who will very definitely look the part.
If you haven't already, please contact me if you have any questions regarding your team's current in-game status or your nefarious plans for Freefall4.
Thanks to everyone for bearing with me in my struggle to get my go-sa together. I'll looking forward to seeing you all at Apoc in a few weeks!

11 Jun 10, 03:38 AM
Just for clarification, we're working to coordinate an AEC before Freefall. The aimed date and time is 2pm on Saturday but we still have to look at schedules and see what time best fits. I'll let you all know well in advance, but as a "blanket guess" for a timeframe, aim for early/noonish on Saturday of the event... but I will reply with more info on that.
Thanks!
EDIT and ADD ON:
I forgot to mention that Pre-Reg will end on Sunday, July 11th... so if you want to save some cash and get some extra in-game supplies, head over to the site and pre-register.

This Just In - our very own Eau Claire-based bellydance troupe, The Shimmy Sisters, have just confirmed that they will indeed attend Freefall4, probably inhabiting the casino as NPCs, and definitely give one of their spectacular performances midday Sunday. I've been working for weeks to recruit them. They. Are. COOOL!!! No, wait, I mean HOT!!! Either way, you gotta see them shimmy. Check out their website and pics at www.ecshimmy.com
JIm Bergles will be performing in the casino on Saturday night after the mine closes. Those of you who have attended past years will remember JimB's amazing mandolin work and his jam sessions with guitarists. He's worked up an entire set of Firefly-based songs, both oldies from the series and new pieces of his own composition, and I can barely wait to hear 'em!
Apoc has outdone itself in adding new features to the field -Thanks Guys! All the teams are in high gear, making plans and gearing up for the Big One. Turnout promises to be HUGE.
Together we are changing the face of live-action and airsoft; players around the world have begun to watch us, and this one in particular will be the stuff from which legends are made. Freefall4 is going to be... Words Fail Me. Let's just say that this series just came of age, and you will be kicking yourself for the next decade if you miss this game.

Freefall will be FUN. The very definition of FUN. I find it funny how back before Freefall III, I couldn't sleep in the preceding nights due to excitement, but come nighttime at the game, I dropped dead from moving around so much. Also folks, be sure to stretch before playing. Also stretch maybe twice or three times during the game. That way you won't be sore for days after. I neglected to do so last year at Freefall. Well, play hard!

Hi everyone,
We are a month out to Freefall... woot! :)
I wanted to let everyone know that I will be creating a new page on the Freefall page called "Factions". On this page will be images, links, and descriptions of some of the more established groups or factions in the game. Some people have put some serious time and effort into their group at Freefall and we would like to represent them on a section of the website.
Not just anyone will be eligible for this, it is reserved for people that have put time and effort into an actual group, team, band, or faction. You and your merc buddy for hire do not count, but a team of coordinated mercs with a sign and persona would be eligible. The most obvious ones that come to mind right now are Reavers, Alliance Shock Troops, Alliance Task Group 7, The Company Mercs, CWC Mercs, Dexeldyne Employees, Ataraxia Militia, Waxwing Crew, Phyxias Crew, Port Authority, Crime Syndicate, True Path Followers, etc.
I'll coordinate with Todd on each faction's bio snippet for the Faction page on the site.
If you have some groups photos already, send them to me at jopper_13@yahoo.com
There will be an official event photographer at Freefall 4, if you want some groups photos for the new page this year, seek him out and have him take some photos.

The door to the captain’s quarters slid open with a slight mechanical hiss and in stepped a figure clad in navy blue uniform and black armor. The figure strolled confidently to the desk in the center of the room.
“Captain.” Said the figure as he came to rest at ease in front of the desk and the figure sitting behind it. The figure’s uniform was washed and clean, properly tended to and up to military standard. The armor overlaying the uniform was in striking contrast… the pits, scars, scratches and chipped paint from combat and war told another story.
“Trooper, do you know why you are here?” said the Captain of the Alliance Cruiser Vargo. The Captain did not look up from his paperwork and maps to properly address or greet the “guest” that had been summoned to his quarters. There was no need for introductions.
“Because you have need of us, Sir. Because we face an enemy of the Alliance that needs to be crushed.” Said the figure.
“Precisely. I am sure you heard the report. Commander Kerrik Jericho is dead. Lieutenant Phantasmo, the ranking officer on the border moon of Ataraxia, submitted a formal report detailing the last skirmish that Task Group 7 was involved in. It appears that Jericho lost control of the port. It cost him his life.”
There was a brief pause as the Captain looked up and finally looked upon the figure in front of him.
“Jericho was weak. He concerned himself too much with the lives of the locals. Cockroaches like those on Ataraxia oppose the Alliance and deserve nothing.” Said the Captain as he reached down and hit a switch on the communication console on his desk.
“I have read the after action report from your last mission, Trooper. Very impressive. Minimum loss of life to Alliance personnel and the orbital mining platform is back online. Other reports validate that your unit devastated the rebellion. A fitting end to the enemies of the Alliance.”
The door slid open a second time and in walked two Alliance soldiers. One was bound by hand cuffs with his arms in front of him. The other was a guard that pressed the muzzle of a stunner forward, pushing the captive into the room. Both soldiers looked nervous about being inside of the room.
“Trooper, this soldier was discovered selling intelligence to local crime rings on Ataraxia, thus undermining our efforts on the planet. What punishment do you feel fits this crime of treason?” said the Captain as he locked eyes with the accused.
As the grim reality of the situation became clear to the accused soldier, he opened his mouth in an attempt to voice his protest. In a blur of motion, the armor clad trooper smoothly turned, flicked out a combat knife, and jammed the blade up to its hilt into the side of the accused soldier’s neck. The blade remained for a moment, twisted, and was removed as fast as it entered. Blood pumped and gushed in tune to the soldier’s heartbeat as the soldier collapsed to his knees. By the time the body had finally rested on the floor, the soldier was dead.
“Without hesitation and without mercy; following orders without question. Very good.” Smiled the Captain as he flicked his hand, motioning to the guard to remove the body from his quarters. Without a word the guard dragged the lifeless corpse out and into the hallway.
“Is your unit ready?”
“Always, Sir.”
“Good. Jericho’s peacekeeping efforts have become more of a burden than it was worth. As of now, your unit is officially reassigned to Task Group 7. You are to drop immediately and reinforce Alliance presence in the port. Lieutenant Phantasmo is wounded and has been brought off planet for medical care. There is an outpost with Task Group 7 regulars and survivors on Ataraxia. Use them if needed. Your orders have been downloaded to your data slate in the launch bay. I’m sure you are a quick study… you have your orders, you have your targets, and you need to be on planet at once. Will you fail me?”
“Never, Sir.”
“And what if somebody stands in your way?” said the Captain with a hint of a controlled yet sadistic grin.
“Then we crush them or we die in the name of the Alliance. If they oppose the Alliance directives, they are traitors and deserve death. If we fail, we deserve death, Sir.” Said the figure in armor, his expression calculating but devoid of emotion.
“It seems we are on the same page, Trooper. You know what must be done and you have full operative level authority to get it done. And while you are on planet, take care of this.” Said the Captain as he slid a package across the table.
“Your unit was brought into this campaign for a reason and I expect results. Dismissed.”
The trooper crisply snapped to attention and saluted with a closed fist across his chest, then reached forward and picked up the package. He quickly moved to the hanger bay of the Vargo and walked up the ramp to the “jumper”, a HALO military transport; it’s bullet design crude but effective in piercing the atmosphere at tremendous speeds. Inside the transport sat several rows of soldiers clad in battle worn heavy armor similar to the one of the approaching trooper.
“We have our orders.” Said the trooper as he took his seat and the automatic transport harness clamped down around his chest. As the transport door closed with a thud, the trooper reached to the side and grabbed a helmet and slid it over his head, the pressure seals locking into place with a swish. The helmet donned a freshly painted “7” to represent the Trooper’s new task group on one side. On the other side was the arrow insignia of the Orbital Shock Troopers; an elite and feared assault unit of the Alliance military.
“Nex Illis Subter Supter. Prepare to drop.” said the Trooper over the helmets commo to the rest of his squad.
The transport jolted and left the hanger of the Vargo, heading straight for the nearby moon of Ataraxia.

"Hey, Max, you see that?" the pilot of the Vox Populi asks as he points out of the refitted dropship's cockpit. With a heading straight for Ataraxia, the ship flies close on the nose of her sister ship, the Albatross. Both are silent: all lights off, all but the minimal life support and sensors shut down. On radar, the two ships look like a large piece of space debris: like an old satellite leaking off heat off a still radioactive core. Outside the window, a streak of light bolts away from the ominous green glow of the obelisk that is the Alliance cruiser Vargo.
"Kun nan, looks like the wolves have come to play."
"We ready for that?"
"We better be; seems our jobs just got a little bit tougher."

In case anyone is interested in getting in the Firefly mood early, I thought i'd drop some info on an event taking place tomorrow, July 10th.
A friend of mine made me aware of a local showing for CSTS (Can't Stop The Serenity) that is going on in Madison tomorrow.
Can't Stop The Serenity is a gathering of Firefly and Serenity fans. Some of them cosplay (dress up in costumes) and they all meet up at a theatre and have a special showing of the movie Serenity and sometimes Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog. There are gatherings like this all over the country every year.
There is a chance that Task Group 7 might be making an appearance tomorrow to hand out flyers for the upcoming Freefall event. :)

Four days to Freefall4! Ryan and I have just finished the new Reaver Rules for this year's game. These should eliminate the most controversial elements of last year's Reavers while still allowing a relatively small all-NPC Reaver pack to be a serious threat whenever and wherever they strike. Here they are:
REAVER RULES
Version 2.0, Freefall4, 2010
Reavers are normally played by dedicated NPCs recruited by the Event Organizer. If other players volunteer to play Reavers, they may only do so with the permission of the Event Organizer and under the direct supervision the designated Reaver Captain NPC. These “add-on” Reaver volunteers may only use melee weapons and airsoft pistols.
Reaver NPCs and volunteers must act like Reavers, making it obvious what they are through aggressive behavior and vocalizations. All Reavers must wear clothing, masks, and equipment that make them immediately identifiable as Reavers. Reavers are not limited by ammo or magazine restrictions and may reload at any time. The weapons used by Reaver NPCs will be specified by the Event Organizer to suit the scenario. Reavers cannot use sniper-class airsoft weapons.
Reavers may capture and drag off wounded or uninjured live players in order to “mutilate” them. Reavers may assign special wound cards to captured players to represent mutilation damage. A Reaver-mutilated player must roleplay the wounds accordingly. Reaver NPCs will instruct captured players on what they are allowed to do.
Reaver NPCs decide for themselves when they’ve taken enough damage to be knocked down or killed, NOT the defending players. A Reaver must roleplay a hit when one is noticed by staggering back from the impact or falling to the ground. However, certain Reavers may require additional airsoft hits, multiple stunner darts, or numerous melee weapon strikes before falling down or displaying kill rags, at the discretion of the individual Reaver NPC. This mania to attack even when wounded represents the Reaver’s berserk blood lust, elevated pain threshold, and hunger for human flesh. Reaver NPCs will scale their own “toughness” according to the number of players faced in combat, and may decide to be tougher or easier to kill based upon the situation. Do not be surprised if a Reaver who was just shot or cut down stands back up to attack again.
Reavers that have been knocked down by weapons hits, but who are not yet displaying a kill rag, may get back up and re-enter the game AT ANY TIME at each Reaver’s discretion. As with any other wounded character, players must refrain from shooting Reavers lying wounded on the ground. Reavers may only be engaged with airsoft fire when they are back up on their feet and back in the game. Because Reavers can reinsert at will, it is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS to approach a downed Reaver who is not displaying a kill rag and players are strongly advised NOT to attempt to deliver a “coup de grace” kill with a rubber knife or melee weapon to a downed Reaver who is not displaying a kill rag.
Players are asked to refrain from shooting Reaver NPCs in the head. Be courteous and aim for other parts if possible. Players should exercise trigger control when fighting Reavers. The sheer volume of fire hitting some Reavers can be overwhelming. If a Reaver is charging with a sword, a full-auto spray at 25 feet is not necessary when a short burst can hit them. A large volume of full-auto fire does NOT necessarily mean that the Reaver will go down faster or stay down longer. If the Reaver continues to advance after staggering back from a short burst, give it another short burst. Repeated short bursts are much more likely to put a Reaver down than one long spray.
Players can only finish off Reavers by scalping. A Reaver can be scalped ONLY while displaying a kill rag. It is up to the individual Reaver NPCs when they wish to display kill rags. Again, approaching a downed Reaver who is not displaying a kill rag is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, as that Reaver may opt to reanimate at will. Reavers that display kill rags MUST remain on the ground a minimum of 5 minutes. If no players have scalped these Reavers during that time, they may put away their kill rags and reenter the game. To scalp a Reaver displaying a kill rag, touch the Reaver with a rubber knife and say “I am scalping you”. The Reaver will surrender a scalp-lock and withdraw from the area.
When in doubt, use common sense. Remember that the NPCs who play Reavers do not profit from their actions and are dedicating their time to the enjoyment of others. Do not let your emotions get the better of you - Reavers attacks are MEANT to be the toughest and most intensely terrifying combat encounters in the game.

Engineers and Ship's Mechanics:
When you register, make sure to mention that you are playing an Engineer or Mechanic character, so that you receive a copy of the Engineer's Codebook. In order to use the Codebook to repair vehicles this year, an Engineer or Mechanic will need to be able to generate a random number between 00 and 99; this can be done with something as simple as a d20 rolled twice, or two cards drawn from a pack with the facecards removed, or as hi-tech as an electronic randomizer or a scientific calculator with a randomize function. I will have d20s and/or packs of cards to loan out, but if you play an Engineer and have some cool hi-tech-looking randomizer, by all means toss it in your toolkit and bring it along!

A number of players have asked me about administering a "coup de grace" on stunned or wounded characters. I did allow this last year on a limited basis, and thought it worked well enough to use as a standard option this year. Here's how it works - you must approach the downed player with a drawn rubber knife or wounding melee weapon like a rubber sword; you touch the downed player's chest GENTLY and say "Killed." The now-dead player displays his or her kill rag and reports DIRECTLY to me or my minions at the Port Authority Desk - no MediPaks, no Doctors, the victim has been slit from gulch to gullet and is Kilt Stone Dead! If you the murderer are a Slaver looking to collect a bounty (should one be offered for fresh slaves,) you may accompany your victim to the Port Authority Desk and wait while the deceased is converted into a new slave laborer, after which you can claim the bounty voucher and the slave heads to the mines or the gladiator pits.
This only works on downed, stunned or unconscious characters, so guard your buddies when they are down. Also, don't try this on stunned Reavers - you could lose an arm.
Attention Slavers: For purely game purposes, I am exempting vendors, certain essential NPCs, and hired talent like the Shimmy Sister dancers from service as slave labor.
I will be covering all of this again in the pregame briefing. Just wanted to whet your appetites a little more....
PS - It looks like there's going to be a 50% chance of scattered thundershowers on Sunday, so bring raingear you can fight in. Freefall is a rain-or-shine event. See you all Saturday.

We need you! The Militia is still looking for last minute players who are not assigned to any role and would like to play as an important part of this event! I need as many bodies as I can get... (did that sound dirty to anyone else?!) Regardless, I have important tasks to carry out, and I could use a few good soldiers, mercs, meat shields, psychos, killers... it doesn't matter to me! If you would like to play as the militia, please contact me via PM on here- or at the game! Sergeant Cassius Morgan welcomes all help!

Hi everyone,
Please keep in mind that Apocalypse Paintball does require a safety course for under aged players. If you have not been through one, there will be one available at 2pm on Saturday (tomorrow). Members of the WAA will be coming out to assist in getting younger players through a safety course. The course on Saturday has no additional charge associated with it; just make sure you bring appropriate eye pro and an working AEG. DO NOT SHOW UP LATE OR YOU WILL MISS THE COURSE!
If you do not attend this course and have not attended any other approved courses in the past, you will not be allowed to play... that is a field rule at Apoc!
