View Full Version : 01/22/06 -Op: Deep Freeze II "Arctic Dawn"
Intel: A militant environmental defense organization by the name of "Arctic Dawn" has finished work on Project: Crystallis. To the best of our knowledge, Crystallis was designed to utilize various military satellites with nuclear power plants to adjust their orbit over major cities and detonate them in high earth orbit. The resulting explosion would cause a massive EMP (Electro Magnetic Pulse). Which effectively renders all electronic equipment useless within a 50 mile radius from the blast target. Intel reports state they are planning to detonate an unknown number of these military satellites over the capitols and major cities of every major country during the month of January. This type of strike would literally plunge most of North America and parts of Europe into an ice age. Arctic Dawn hates the way the major countries are "killing" the planet and has stated in a number of E-Mails that technology is the enemy. This "Crystallis" threat seems to go against what they stand for due to the massive amount of technical know-how that is required to pull this off and signifies they are getting help from an outside source. MI-6 has sent in an agent to find out more information on this group. His last transmission this morning stated the following, "Arctic Dawn is actually a front for and organization called........." the transmission stopped after that. US and British forces are mobalizing as we speak. The information he collected must have been extremely important or he wouldn't have broken his cover to transmit the information.
Where: Dragon's Lair / Fort Atkinson, Wi
When: 10am-? (Depends on the Weather conditions)
Teams:
"Arctic Dawn" - Civilian and partial military Clothing
"Stalag 7" - OD Green
US & British Forces - Woodland, Urban, DPM Uniforms
Allied SF - Tiger Stripe
Characters:
Segei “Steven” Kaminski (open) - Leader of Arctic Dawn
Jonas Mueller (open) - German programmer, Hacker and technical wizard.
Michael Westfield(Viper) - MI-6 agent, "003", sent to collect information on Arctic Dawn.
Mission:
1.) Go in and rescue British agent
2.) ?
3.) ?
4.) ?
Hit Rules:
Arm/Leg - Loss of use until "Tagged" by medic
Torso/Head - Dead. Can regen twice by Medic
Rules: Full seal goggles or mesh required. Players under 18 must have both parents sign waiver and have completed the AEC. 18 and older must sign waiver prior to, or at the field prior to playing.
Dragon's Lair Waiver: http://dragon-lair.net/waiver.htm
Safety: During this time of the year be prepared to deal with the cold. Hand and Boot warmers are invaluable, along with water. Even though it's cold, you can still suffer from dehydration. Wear enough clothing to remove a layer if you get too hot. Be safe and have fun.
DK finished the communication center a couple of weeks ago so looks like one more piece falls into place. If everything goes right, we will get to use it, along with all the other structures at the Lair. Look forward to seeing everyone there.
Also, a donation box will be out during this game for the first time at the lair. All money collected will go towards our new CQB building. :D

Hey Viper...why do you have in your poll a slot for both what appears to be regular forces and special forces...do we have to wear "short bus" helmets if we're "special"?
All kidding aside, what is the differenciation? Did you really intend on having both regular and SF?
Prof,
The "Special" classification indicates troops that will not be involved in the game 100%. They will only be called in when the conventional ground forces are getting over run or are in a pinch. Then again if the conventional forces get completely wiped out, the special forces can call in "Out" players as additional special forces. This regen will only be allowed once per phase of the Op. Good question though Prof, thanks for bringing it up. ;)
Now that I think about it, Stalag 7 is the special forces for Arctic Dawn. Just so there is no confusion. The first 7 to sign up for this detachment are it. First come, first serve.
Also, if anyone wants to play the other two parts let me know.

Hey wait a minute...I just noticed somethin else. British agents don't need rescuin, they get out of predicaments by themselves...into to em too. :] And anuther thing, Viper yer not British...how'd you get to play 003? Oh, for that matter neither am I, jolly good! Keep up the good work chap, brilliant!
One final thiing...I guess you intended Echo to play the role as the British SF? I presume it doesn't actually matter as many of us have a variety of BDUs. Do you have a preference?
I look at it this way, all the other "00" numbers get killed off all the time, I'm making sure I get out of this one alive. ;)
I was hoping that Echo would actually make up half and half. Half to ground forces, and the other to SF. Besides, you have the biggest roster out of the teams that attend most of the Lair's games.
For the crown old boy.

Comon Chaps...if you haven't been to the Lair you are definetly missing out. Many of you go week in and week out to WGR and should try the Lair for a change of pace. Nothing like a change of terrain to set yer blood goin not knowing what, where, etc. Not to mention by going to the Lair you have the opportunity to increase yer trigger time by going to both!

Continue on Hwy26S until after bypassing Ft Atkinson then just after the last "FORT" sign (a log facade of a fort with "Welcome to FT Atkinson" on it there is an intersection that is Old Hwy 26 - take a right and follow it till you reach - N1019 OLD 26 on your right about 1/2 mile down. It's only just about an hour from Milwaukee. For you Madison people it's proably about the same...kinda half way between tha two.
Oh, and one other thing...if you think you're good, try taking on the Dragons and MERT...it'll give you a whole new "perspective" on yer game play...and yeah, that's is a CHALLENGE.
So come on down and checkout a different terrain.

hey just a random comment on realism; seeing as the sensitivty of this mission is so high dosn't it make sense that the SF would be the main assault force and the regular troops be backup? just a thought.
any way i am definatly comming if at all possible and mostlikly my friend and dad will come as well.
looking forward to it,
crim.
Crim,
You are right. Due to the Sensitive nature of this mission, in a real world Scenario, SF would be the main force making the push followed up with regular ground troops in reserve.
And it is more than likely that even though I made the "Regular Troop" remark somewhere, the main allied force would probably be made up of Rangers, Green Berets, and the British equivelant. Prof. you may need to help me on info on that. While the "SF" troops would be Delta and SAS, or some higher British force I am unfamiliar with.
Look forward to seeing you there Crim.
Higher up british units include SAS and SBS along with Royal Marines to a lesser degree. BTW, pending transportation, I'm in.

I beleive that was fish who capped him. >-->(fish) He said he had a gun, so he shot him. Yea, if you would ever want help clearing brush I would be glad to help. That goes for the other fields out there as well.
I love how you labeled that "incident" retrieving documents, you could have just labeled it "dumbass locked keys in car"... nice pics!
I would like to apologize for that excellent shot on Viper in the end. All I really have to say though is that I love my new hop up. I didn't know it was you Viper.
First off, I want to thank everyone who made it out to the game today, Myself, and the rest of MERT had a blast. It was nice to see that everyone enjoyed the game and is looking forward to the next one. :D Arctic Dawn, had a rough day to put it mildly, but all the players did a fantastic job working together, it was nice to see.
Secondly, I don't have a problem with being shot, if that was the mission, but it wasn't. I was suppose to be located and captured. You may think it was "excellent", but it screwed the entire outcome of the game because one person couldn't follow the mission outline. I could go on, but I've said my peace.
Thanks again everyone and I look forward to seeing you all on the field again.
Was cool meeting you.
Need some zip-ties? :o
I seriously am sorry. I didn't know that it was you Viper. I did think it was a great skirm and a wonderful field. I would happily come back again.

I am curious as to what was the official headcount?

That was me that thanked your wife. Also, if you find a cell phone, it is mine. I lost it sometime today, not sure where. I was parked near the evergreen when you first come in. I dont know if it fell out there or not. It is a silver and black LG phone with a Ferrari engine as the wallpaper. If you find it, I would be very appreciative. Thanks for the great game, and I'll see you at the next one you host.

I am curious as to what was the official headcount?I think there were about 30 people there - 10 or so on Arctic Dawn, and about double that for Coalition forces.
Despite the overwhelming odds ;), I had a good time and look forward to the next Lair experience. Great scenario, Viper; the operation was fleshed out very well.
we missed it  but i hope you all had fun. I really want to try out Dragon Lair.
Thanks Seppuku, I did what I could. Plus I love writing so I took a lot of time and a lot of "Creative Liberties" to try and make it fun.
Fish, It's okay, I forgive you. One good thing did occur though with you taking me out....Arctic Dawn lived to fight another day......Hmmmmm, Arctic Dawn 2 ? ;)
Operation: Deep Freeze 2 was for the most part a huge success. Allied forces used team work and skill, and sheer numbers to overwhelm Arctic Dawn for the first 3 Phases of the Operation. The British agent, German Programmer were recovered and "Crystallis" was destroyed.
In Phase 4 British SAS gained a bead on Sergei Kaminski, the commander of "Arctic Dawn" and "BISON", and neutralized the target in a stunning shot. Reasoning was that Kaminski was too much of a threat to let escape. Washington and London supported the course of action that put "Arctic Dawn" on the run.
The Mop up of "Arctic Dawn" did not go off as we would have hoped. Now leaderless, the heirarchy of the organization is fighting for power. The exact extent of the mission may not be fully known for the time being, but in the event "Arctic Dawn" rises up again, Britain and the US will put them down for the last time.

This may sound funny, but I gotta thank MuthaNature for bring us a "white" OP: Deep Freeze II :D
Thanks to Viper for the scenarios...well done 'ole Chap! Thanks, of course, to DK for using the Lair!
I now have to apologize publicly for the accusation of not calling hits on one of the four brothers from Milwaukee...you just kept coming back and shooting me...geeze. Yeah, great tactical move to keep the medic in close range and out of the fire. So, again sorry ...good move on your part! Very impressive how a smaller force, even with a few more medic regens, could hold off a larger force...well done chaps!
It was an honor to server with MERT and the Dragons for a change instead of getting shot by em. Here's to the guys acting as Rangers too!
Last, alas I have to say, I'm headed for surgery this morning to have me leg amputated just below tha knee. My poor attempt to leap the barracade surrounding that "Crystillis" contraption was a wee bit higher than me legs could carry me and I giving me leg for tha Queen. Nah, just joking, but it sure does hurt this morning. BTW, thanks for covering me arse there Joker!
I had a blast...hope everyone else did. Thanks to everyone for coming out and making it a skirm to remember!

I must applaud you professor for that wonderful vault over the bunker you did. I was sitting right next to Viper when it happened and didn't even see you until it was to late. A Bonzai charge was honestly the last thing I was expecting.

Well I have to say I did not see the Great Brit charge for I was on the far side of the woods, but I did hear the large sound of somthing hitting the 3 foot wall around the dish. Would have been cool if someone would have been taping it.
Final head count was 32.
