This event kicked-ass, like all TFD events, everyone played well, sportsmanship was high, and despite only having 35-45 people, it was still fun as hell. Thanks for the memories guys :D.
Oh yeah, to all of those who didn't show because "of the weather": it didn't rain a drop you friggin' pansies.

(US forces Point of view)

I would like to say the game was fun for first half.

The 2nd half I didn't care for.
Here are my problems :
Respawns: 5 min wait at where you die, then walk the entire field to your respawn point, then wait 15 min, then walk the entire field again back to the battle.

Game : We had to go to a base , and find WMDs(I think , I didn't find out till half way through playing - just found random battles), this base was across the entire playing field from our respawn.

The Rebels : They were defending a base that is extremely hard to take, and their respawn was their base. Not to mention we were out-gunned

The villagers : they didn't do anything, but cause our team more problems. Also the villagers wasted everyones time since we spent half the time trying to "recruit" them and then in the end they never really did anything except turn on us. so it was about 30vs15 in the end.

Leadership : we had very little direction throughout the entire game. Even with the last scenario , the entire us forces thought we had to defend a base(wasted a lot of time).
Instead we were supposed to attack the "Castle" 30rebels vs 15 us Forces

In my opinion it was too difficult for the US forces.

Also , No raffle !

P90,

As for the villagers, they didnt help the Rebels either. And we messed with the Rebels MUCH more than we did with the US. MUCH MORE!.

I'll post more later, but believe me, you (the US) were probably shot at more, but were 'messed' over less by the Villagers then the Rebels side was. I mean, heck, we stole the Arms Cache of the Rebels, which I am sure cost them more then just points, then we found the second Nuke...

Which, I have to say, I offered up on a silver platter to the US Command. Though they probably didnt believe me that it was a real offer. But, it was. And the two Weapons Crates that were grabbed in a WHOPPING Package Deal.

But, sadly was declined by the US Command (which they probably thought was just an excuse for an ambush), and so we offered it up to the Rebels. They paid for it with 'all their food and water' and a platoon of men to guard our village from the 'invaders' that were shooting our people.

More later. I am just dog tired and I have to sleep.

1st off thanks to TFD and apoc for hosting another game. we always have a good time up there. yesterday however was more of gear tuning for irene.

from a villagers POV:
i think right now we all have to take role players seriously. I commend the US medic for playing along, and tank for complying me request hence myself and my battle buddy pledged our services to the US.

as we rolled w/ tank to do recon on FFFs FOB, we managed to do a lil bit of recon and just as we were ready to do an assault to FFFs FOB, a bunch of US players (at least 10) walked in "casually" down the road, and totally messed up our stealth. eitherway, COs had us villagers back to a town meeting. tank and the 2 marpat guys were there with us as witness.

anyways, it was a great day/weather for airsoft and i am ready to do a bigger event in 2 weeks.

til next time!

Well gents, My take....

First of all, I again wanna thank Mark, Chase, Chris, Brian & everyone on TFD for giving me a break from running events... It was needed & it was nice to be able to defer things... For Mark's 1st time running an event, Id say he did quite alright.

Second, I want to say sorry to those that were unhappy over the game-day changes in the scenerio. The players that no-showed made the scenerio that was planned quite cumbersome & therefore, the switches were made to make things run smoother. Personaly I HATE it when I show for a game expecting one thing & get another, but I do see why it was needed. Thankyou to those who did show & for their patience over the changes that were made.

I showed up expecting to OC & was basicly told by the rest of my team to go play. Not having ANY of my gear with me, I wound up with other people's hand-outs & spare equipment... None the less, I was equiped well enough to play & wound up the FFF leader.

We came up (as a group) with a good plan up front & got control of everything from the large mine field, around the entire backside of the swamp & up to the west side of the castle... The boys played extreamly well & exicuted the plan almost flawlessly. If it hadn't been for the sneekyness of Tank & a couple others, I think we mighta pulled it off w/o casualties.

The Villagers made us run circles, getting them stuff & buying their help, dispite the US shooting at them... I hoped that would get more cooperation, but it didn't...

In the end, we wound up evacuating the FOB & controling our aquired items, by hiding them in the DMZ and setting a perimiter... Good job to all involved!

Good game, cleanly played & good weather... Cant ask for much more then that.

Any game with at least a single kill is a good day for me, although I only went through half a mag the entire day. Thanks a bunch to TFD, you guys handled the last minute attendance very well given the circumstances in my opinion. In addition, a pleasure fighting with the members of Wolf Recon, much fun to be with you guys in the fray.

Also, OpDoc, for the large odds against your team you held your ground well in my opinion. Our squad charge against the seemingly abandoned mosque was quite quickly put down when you and an entire squad (seemingly out of nowhere) quelled all of us without sustaining a single casualty. Kinda glad we didn't attack though. My intel was that there was digging for something that would benefit the US, so we were told to steal it. Later I found out it was a civilian's dead family member's stuff, and stealing that could have put us in a pretty bad position. Next game I will have to buy twice as many candybars for you damn locals!

Also, I think the pre-pay method works extremely well for events. This event and the pay-at-the-field method only works for the hardcore among us who expected to get drenched and keep fighting into the night ;). In either case, I still enjoyed the small squad fighting just as much as any large scale battle. I also would like to commend the FFF on their communication, as it definitly held us together through the confusing developments. Not once was I confused as to where we could fall back and expect help from hostiles, despite the constant movement of our squads.

It seems that the smaller turnout worked well, giving TFD members a break, getting Mark into how it's done, and getting me some squad leadership training in over the day.

In conclusion, good, clean, fun game TFD and Wolf Recon, and I'll hopefully see all you gents at Breedland II if not sooner :).

Well I will be honest and say that Round Up III was a bit of a disappointment for me. Now, I am most assuredly not saying it was a bad event or that I regret attending. I think the OCs handled the situation well to keep it fun despite a less than optimal situation. I just have Round Up II and Vigilance III raising my standards. :) Many thanks to everyone involved. I too experienced a very clean game and had a good time.

Usual lengthy personal AAR:

My friend and I were running with Kerrick’s squad and got swapped to the FFF team when they had insufficient personnel, so I ended up playing the same faction as last year. After game on, Batman sent us through Pakistan to the village with instructions to sway the locals to our cause. As we drew near, movement in the woods caused us to go to ground and Peally sent Lane and I around the left to try for an ID. We crept near the castle, but the contacts were only villagers and soon we all were inside the village, handing out gifts. I had brought extra granola bars for the locals, but Ghostbear was not impressed since they were not the fudge covered variety. While I was chatting, US forces around the north of the castle cut down one of our men and several villagers. We quickly drug the villagers to safety and managed to save two of them with timely medical aid. We were also told the US had promised them Mountain Dew and quickly dispatched Kerrick and Diehard to get them the promised substance before our enemies did. Peally, Riptyn and I were left to watch over the area and exited the west side of the village at the resident’s request. We ran straight into four guys in multicam just down the road. No one went for their weapons however, no doubt due to Peally’s ACU and my reversed woodland. I wanted to open fire, but our squad leader had us act nonchalant and take up positions in the trenches. We hung around for ten minutes or so. Other US players moved through the tower area to the village, and dead US walked right through our trench. I was getting more nervous when the multicam guys moved off, and a lot of US forces were seen moving north along the main road. I breathed easy now that no hostiles were on top of us. The next thing I see is a lone US player walking past us to the castle with a ref. I do a double take. OpDoc! This was too good to pass up. I slipped onto the road and came up behind him, Peally right behind me. I get within arm’s reach and start to say “POW!” Right at the ‘W’ Peally shouts “Bang!” Arrrrg, so close to removing the US commander for fifteen minutes! OpDoc was understandably unhappy, and flush with assasinatory success, we fled the scene before a revived US CO could bring down retribution.

About this time Kerrick and company were back with the Dew, and we got word that Batman was coming to collect blue cards, so our trio of assassins went to escort our imperious leader. We met up in the middle of the DMZ, at which point word came in that we were down to one man on the minefield. Peally and I hastened back to the firebase, which was empty and moved up to reenforce. Everyone was dead by that point of course and we came under fire almost immediately. I tagged one US player on the road, then took a hit. Peally asked if he should try to medic me, but with 4-6 US players moving up, I said no. “Ok, bye” and he was gone. I bled out as the US came past, but we delayed them just long enough for reenforcements and respawns to come into play. I am not sure they knew how close they came to just walking into the firebase. After that I was on base defense until lunch. Moderate skirmishing that never really threatened to overrun us. Afterwards I had more garrison duty, then headed out again with Kerrick and most of our squad. We hit the castle again to sway villagers. While my granola was inferior, I did have a large bag of beef jerky for the good citizens. That seemed to go over well. Kerrick led several back to Batman for blue card transfer while Riptyn, Lane and I went to the northwest outside corner to relieve some Wolf Recon guys. Instead we ran into Peally +1 hiding in the brush watching someone dig in the mosque. We were instructed to hide and that we would rush the place to claim the prize when it was unearthed. We were led single file into the north trench, which I thought was a bad idea, quickly confirmed when a US player got up top and raked the whole thing. Only I survived by virtue of being in a trench exit. I popped up to return fire, but my selector switch had gotten bumped to semi. With things going very not well, I tried to bolt but only managed to get myself shot at close range (footnote: ow). We were supposed to link back up with friendlies on the land bridge after respawning, but were drawn into a large battle at the firebase. I ended up in a position under thorn bushes for the third time that day on the northwest side by the tapeline. Attackers liked the hard cover under that tower by the gate. I liked to crawl into those bushes to get some flanking fire on them. This time there were about four US players stacked up on the trail and I came under fire right away. Then for some reason it slacked off and they came right for me. I got good kills on at least three, then got tagged by return fire. Lane came up to try to heal me, but only succeeded in getting himself got eliminated and getting me shot several more times in the head. We bled out, respawn and took up positions in the main firebase bunker, holding out against what others said was a three pronged assault. Word came over the radio that the villagers wanted to trade for a nuke they had. We quickly surrendered all our food and sent off a runner and Batman to cinch the deal. Word then came down to abandon the firebase and set up to defend Pakistan. We left guards at the DMZ entrance and found friendlies at the far corner with one of the nukes. This we quickly hid as word was a Blackhawk was inbound to the DMZ. Everyone went to ground in preparation when some troops came in with the second nuke and an ammo crate. The additional booty was stashed and everyone dug in to defend, but nothing significant came our way. The guys defending the castle must have had all the fun. :)

In reference to the OpDoc assasination all I have to say is, oops my handgun may have accidentally been considered discharged and that no one saw anything...

As for the slaughter in the trenches, we were holding that point since lunch, lost two people to probing tangos, and observed the mosque the rest of the time until you arrived. Unfortunantly the timing must have been perfect because all anyone saw that entire time was at most two or three US soldiers hanging around the mosque. Therefore we deemed it fit to sneak in assuming the rest of the US was near the FoB or back farther in the US base. You wouldn't have liked my plan B to that :D. The original plan was (in hopes of avoiding ANY fire on the village) charge the thing stalin motherland style and hope for the best. If we'd have moved to the left right away and not gotten a bit hung up from forward fire I feel we could have confidently held the mosque for at least long enough to realize it was bad intel to steal the villager's booty ;).

And yes all I needed to hear was a quick "No need to drag me" and I ran like a little girl back to the FoB.

Also, a couple quick clarification questions. First, why did we evacuate the FoB? Was this so we could secure the objectives in the absolute safest spot in the AO? Or was there some serious firepower coming in, like a US airstrike or the UH-60 or some such? Second, how did the ambush go? All I remember was Batman went silent. A go-code would have been helpful to establish beforehand as I was going to send some people to cause some trench mayhem to take the heat off if the ambush went sour.

I also forgot to mention, villagers nice roleplaying for such a short notice joining the game. And it is very unfortunant that the minefield wasn't utilized as it was originally intended to be in a larger game setting. It looked nifty and would have been quite a feat to get cleared. Also, Andy, godspeed, we'll be waiting for your explodie return!

I'll shut up now ;).

For those who are superstitious and witnessed the terrible gear failures I had all weekend while also wanting a scapegoat for the low turnout, I need to admit that on the way to Apoc my car was crossed by a black cat at the Johnson Creek exit. Furthermore, on Saturday night I caught a glimpse of a litter of black cats hiding near the road by the hotel.

By the way, if anyone found the lower half of an SR-6 RIS complete with vertical grip and a green rail cover, please contact me. Amazingly I was able to find a lost G26c, MP7 magazine, but not this part.

Hey everyone, I had a good time this weekend. I do really wish I would have gotten to play with OpDoc and friends again, but oh well. I got to roll with some people I haven't shot plastic with before. It was good to see TFD get some trigger time. You guys put a lot into games and its great to see you on the field as players, too. I think the roleplaying was what really made this op. The villagers were fantastic job, props to all of you.

P.S.; Rekkon and I should get a dedication patch for driving just under 2,000 miles in one month to come to Apoc :P

Thanks again for a fun weekend. Can't wait for BoB2

See you all in October for some zombie killing goodness!

Well I guess it is my turn to speak on this.

I guess after to being involved in the Op BoB, I expected a little more out of this op. With that being said it was good for me new guys to get some time on this field before next your and BoBII.

The best part of the op for me was me and my crew cleared out that trench then moved to the FOB.

I will say it was fun seeing some old faces and slinging plastic with you all. I look forward to BoB next year.

I meant to post this earlier but been a little short on time lately.

First of all let me say thank you to TFD and all the event OCs for making this a very enjoyable event. If any of you decided to sit this one out because you thought it was going to rain then you missed a very fun event. I commend Downslide and the rest of TFD for rolling with the punches but in all honesty, I had more fun at Round Up 3 than I have in a very long time. I don't know how much of a difference there was between "what was planned" and "what was played" but the objectives and missions we went on were great. Also, it had to be one of the cleanest games I have ever played in and the outstanding level of sportsmanship was very very refreshing. Kudos to the players on that note!

I ran as a medic with a shotgun on the FFF team for the whole day and only got 2 kills, but the firefights weren't heavy with casualties. I also very much enjoyed not having a ton of guys to lead or worry about and the sort of "go with the flow" structure and command setup for the FFF was actually quite fun. We spent a lot of time bouncing around, skirmishing a little here and there, escorting, role playing with villagers, patrolling, and going after little objectives. Peally was my squad leader and we never really got into super intense firefights, but enough to keep people's itchy trigger fingers scratched.

I heard that the US team was getting a little upset over the villagers, but in all honesty they kept screwing with us just as much. We ran all over looking for food and even made a tactical Mountain Dew run (right past a huge group of US team members in the airball field... I thought we were going to get lit up but managed to get passed them) for the village leader and did what they told us to do. They needed healing, so we healed them... they wanted us outside the walls because our presence brought trouble, so we left and sat outside... we tried very hard to win the hearts and minds and it ended up banking numerous additional fighters for the FFF. Our team also did not occupy their mosque (spelling?) which rallied the villagers against the US and we also did not dig in their holy ground which made them mad as well or even shoot any of them unless they shot first. :P Now I'm not sure if they actually did mess with the US more than the FFF, but we tried very very hard to work with the villagers and it was actually a lot of fun role playing it out. :)

I read an article in an airsoft magazine about using clay pigeons as mines and I loved the fact that TFD used them just for that purpose. The Minefield signs and blaze orange discs littered across the ground and seperating the two forces from each other in the beginning was way cool. The FFF seemed content with taking pop shots at the US while they tried to get their engineers up to clear the minefields, but I was never actually involved in that fighting... I was busy chilling with the locals. :)

It is hard to describe exactly what made this event so enjoyable for me... perhaps it was the slightly smaller more personal atmosphere, the ability to actually patrol and get around the field with stumbling on 25 enemies, the ability to role play and help out your team by doing so, or the little objectives that popped up here and there (like escort Faust while he dug holes looking for his Father's treasure or setting up a 2 man guard post at the edge of the Pakistani DMZ with nothing to shoot at... I love guard duty not because it is tough but because 90% of airsoft players don't have the patience to do it)... but it all mixed together into probably the event I had the most fun at this year. I know players come to events expecting a lot like massive firefights, complex props, sweeping storylines, or crazy add ons... heck I enjoy them just as much as anyone else... but for me what was presented and played was exactly what I wanted and enjoyed. :)

I'll definitely be back for Round Up 4 (not sure which side though... since I've now played on both) and will be attending Breedland 2 next year in May.
