I'm not hoping to start a heated debate over batteries; I would just like some information. I already know the "mah" value is how long the battery will last on a full charge. What I would like to know is what the voltage and discharge rates actually do.

Does having a higher discharge rate increase the rate of fire, but decrease the battery life (example: a 8.4V 3000mah with 30amp discharge runs out quicker than a 8.4V 3000mah with 25amp discharge)?

Also would having a greater dischage rate in a lower voltage battery be equivelent to having a lower discharge rate in a higer voltage battery?(8.4V 3000mah w/ 30amp discharge vs 9.6V 3000mah w/ 25amp discharge rate)

Thanks

yes, people often get put off by voltage, but high discharge can makeup/be just as hurtfull to your gun. http://www.onlybatterypacks.com/
actually gves you all the info you nead, unlike most airsoft suppliers. They will tell you the mah, voltage, just like any airsoft retailer, but they will also give you the discharge rate. Case in point, my bro had two 9.6v batteries from some cheapo place. It turned out their discharge rate was about 2 amps, compared with onlybatterypacks, which range between 10 and 30, this was way lower and it showed. His 9.6v's wouldnt even cycle my SAS and they barely worked in his aug. Upgrades require a higher wattage. You can still use a 8.4 if it has a nice dishctrge rate, like 30 ma. It will run out of power faster, but you can just get a larger battery (space wise) then. voltage is the amount of energy for every amp, discharge is the amount of amperage being fed through you machine. think of it like high octain fuel, you can use a little high octane and get more hp, or you can get a massive turbo and dump tons of ordinary fuel/air mixture and get more hp. Two ways to the same solution. Remember to keep the wattage (voltage x amperage) appropriate for your gun, if it fires "way faster than everybody on the field duuuuude!" then its probably gonna break way faster than everybody elses on the field. amperage and voltage make up wattage, and hence an increase in either one will make your gun operate faster/harder. an 8.4 at a 30 mah discharge will work fine for any auto gun 400fps and below.

Holy wowness.. A lot of good questions and ideas have been posted here on the forums lately. I feel (personally) a lot of the crap that was going on before is starting to sort itself out and not happen as much. I mean, lets face it, a lot less fights have started and more people are starting to post valid infomration and we are getting the answers that we need.

Another not, if I need to I will, but a lot of this infomration that has been posted lately, cold weather, batteries, gun information, is valuable information that we could provide to new commers to the forums here. Just my input on it.

I use an 8.4v 30mah discharge in my M14 and she shoots like a champ.
Sigfro, I know your gun and have shot it and i can tell you that an 8.4 in your gun is fine. A 9.6 will work, but the question is: how long? I've known people who only used 9.6v batteries and never had a problem with them. I have also known folks who stripped out their gears rather quickly using a 9.6v.

Yea, thats what im worried about. Mike back at fortress said the 9.6 would be fine, so i have 2 of those right now.

Spike also stripped his gears on his 552. Oddly enough he was using a 9.6v battery. May be coincedence, may be not.
