I may be getting one of these two guns for christmas, and it's pretty much a stalemate as to which one right now...
first Tokyo Marui AEP
Pros
-Its a tokyo marui which is great for many reasons including
-better hopup
-better durability
-it comes with a battery unlike almost every other TM electric.
-its small so you can run faster with it, or even holster it and full out sprint.
-Full trades, i think?
-230 fps, solid for that price, not sure what UTG's velocity is, have heard many different numbers.
-batteries are fairly cheap
-hi-caps are fairly cheap
Cons
-need multiple batteries if it is to be your primary
-only 100 round hi cap
-not as great range as an aeg, but pretty close
UTG Mp5
Pros
-Dirt cheap real AEG
-comes with battery, and 3 magazines
-apparent TM clone, makes it great for upgrades.
-better range than AEP?
-better velocity than AEP? pretty close, i'd say
-2 stocks
Cons
-UTG unproven which is important because...
-It might crap out after 2 weeks (odds are against that, though)
-noone knows exactly which upgrades do and do not work, yet.
- not sure if it has full trades
- not as great of hopup as tm.
any help is appreciated...

Or, save up and get a real TM AEG.

Like i told you, if theres anymore $180-200 shipped used ones on ebay like that TM XM177 i showed you, or that Classic Army Mp5, i'd get it, but i can't buy a TM AEG new...

you could get an mp5a4 or a5 from poweredgeusa.com for about 195.00, but then you would have to add 20 s&h, making it around 215, plus i believe you will need a battery. I guess this is out fo your price range, but maybe you could stretch it. This would probably be your best coarse of action, go with a proven design and brand so you dont get screwed, let the guys with money and experience go off on the new untested stuff and take chances.
P.s. ebay is a sorted place, sometimes you get a good deal, and most times you get what you paid for, if your looking for used, i'd stick to airsoft buy/sell forums like the ones here. The only time i ever entertain ebay is when its an odd item, such as a classic gun.

Yeah i know you can get New TM AEGs such as FAMAS'S, and Mp5s for about $195, but than shipping from Hawaii with poweredge is probably $25.
So $220 shipped for the gun, and a battery, charger, and hi cap shipped is roughly $80 shipped...so $300 shipped total for TMmp5/FAMAS, battery, charger, and hi cap...almost 3 times as much as a UTG or an AEP.
It would be 20 or less for the shipping. And if all you had was an AEP you really wouldnt be very competitive. The UTG mp5 is probably not a good idea for your first gun because it's life span is unknown (and probably not as long as a TM).
I actually wouldnt reccomend any gun with a barrel as short as that mp5, especially a stock gun, for gary's land, but thats up to you.

Well, right now i use a Well m4 springer at all my games (OP: Rubber ducky, and BHD included), so you have to understand that an AEP or UTG Mp5 would be a HUGE upgrade.

Get an AEP. Its nice from what ive used of them, and heard, plus its a TM. and there's real upgrade parts available that fit and work. Plus its a good package inside a small exterior. And you always have a sidearm, not a backup "aeg."

Yeah AEP sounds like a plan, than if the day ever comes that I get a TM AEG, I could use the AEP as a sidearm, which would be sweet, since for the most part i'm pretty sure TM AEPs are better than most GBBs.

Thats relative to who you talk to. they both have pros/cons.
Just my input on the UTG's hopup and trades.
Only trademarks it has on it are its "CAL 6mm BB" trademarks on it. Thats it, nothing else.
The hopup is the same concept as TM's hopup, and from my shooting comparison with my old Mp5, its the same distance and setting on the hopup settings. As far as the rubber bucking comparison, I have no clue.
Just thought I'd put it in there because you said you didn't know about the trades and the hopup wasn't as good (which is right, it is not as good, but it still is ok and shoots the same).

Is a pretty good write up on how/what you upgrade with a tm aep.
And like you said, no mater what gun you get later the aep will allways be a good sidearm.

Wow! That would be incredible, to bad i suck at taking apart and upgrading guns. Is the content of that article something Bob Kranker would ever do for me?

WHAT! My sd6 worked just fine and actually did pretty nicely in woodland and gary's land... It was soposed to be upgraded but the parts were mixed so it only put out about 295-300 or so. Only thing was i had a systema 6.04 mm precision barrel in it... But then i traded it and got my sig!

As far as the barrel goes in the gun, and its distance, it is just fine to use on Gary's land. It was my main weapon at BHD, and she preformed surpurbly! No problems whatsoever (except for the loss of semi auto) with distance or firing at the field.
Barrel length isn't always EVERYTHING when it comes to firing your AEG. Granted, it might have a bit to do with range and accuracy, but its not always the culprit when it comes range. (Yes, I know it does have a big deal, I'm not saying that. I'm just saying I've stood my own when it comes to using a Mp5 as a primary weapon (specifficaly its barrel lenght) on "open field" battles)

I agree with Turkey and RTO, honestly my main weapon is an Mp5-PDW. Do I do well in open field battles? Hell Yeah!
I would buy the AEP though simply because it has a good rof, almost the range of an AEG and once you have a fullsize AEG you can holster it and carry it with you. Even if you have something like an Mp5-k and you want to sling it and carry it with you as a backup. It gets in the way and causes alot more trouble than what it's worth.

well i have the UTG MP5, trade marks are non-present but its a solid feeling gun.
i can hit a man sized target at about 125 feet pretty frequently. the hop up is pretty responsive though it usualy gets knocked out of place when you replace the battery. just note that this is not a sniper rifle or any kind of anti sniper weapon.
the battery is a NiMah which from my understanding is a good thing. i don't know the exact charge time but it supposidly is 3 1/2-4 hours. the life is pretty good to, burning it out can take a good wile.
the body is a realy solid feeling plastic, the selector switch and cocking lever are both metal, the sights are plastic though. the mag release is also plastic as are the two high cap mags fake mag clamps.
the high cap mags are realy only 150 so they don't count as high caps. people supposedly have feed problems with them, however i havn't. i figuer its just them putting the mag in wrong, as it will lock in when not all the way engaged. my fix for this is to just place it in, listen for the click slap it, then try pulling it out (don't pull to hard) if its in nice it should work. the high caps do feed a little less well than others, so you will get a few miss fires and double shots when in full auto. however the locaps feed perfectly, so i imagin its just the quality of the high caps.
the sling should be tossed, its crap. the rail clamp is full metal, nice quilty and is a double rail so you can mount a few things on it, though i see no point. it comes with a cleaning rod of you ever need it as well.
the FPS is supposidly 250, i think its pretty close. upgrade ability i have heard is same as marui, however you will need a new motor because the current one i have heard is under powered for upgrades.
i reccomend this gun if you need somthing cheap and good for CQB or mid range games.

The hicaps, after testing both, hold easily, 250 rounds of ammunition. The 150 capacity is a false hood. I have not had any feeding problems with my mags what so ever.
The only metal parts on the exterior of the gun are the selector switch, the trigger, and the sling attatchment. The cocking lever of the gun is plastic.
The NiMH battery is suppsed to take the three and a half to four hours to charge (so the manual says), but when put on a smart charger, it can be charged in less than twenty minutes, if not less than that.
As far as fps goes, mine was chronoed at 250 fps at BHD. The upgradeability is similar to Marui, although I have not tried out other equip inside the internals of the gun because i fear of breaking what I would put in (don't say it won't happen because it already has. lol :))
The hopup on mine is perfect. No problems adjusting it and it is as easy as the TM Mp5 series hopup is. Just a little bit more touchy though. Yes, it can be reset or completely off set when it comes to putting on the handguard, you just gotta be careful:D.
Personally, I love the sling that came with it. I HATED my three point sling, it was a pain in the ass when i wanted to use it and it always got hooked on my gear at the worst moments of time. That little crappy sling is perfect and just what I like to use for a sling.
I love the gun, don't get me wrong when I say that it can hold its own. But for now, after seeing the minor difficutiles that I've had with it so far, I would no longer recomend it to anyone, even a new player looking to try out the gun. Just buy a TM if at all possible. This "little one" has been giving me a few troubles lately and I'm beginning to hate what it is doing. ;):D
EDIT: Forgot to mention the reason why I quoted crimtonic.
If the differance of guns between the two of is is actually true, I do not konw the validity of crimtonics statments about his UTG Mp5, this could be a differance of guns proving that it might be anohter CA/ICS case where there are lemons up the wazoo!
