I had fun. More thoughts later...

Aside from being killed more times than I care to count, it was a good scenario. The second half id have to say was far better than the first.

First, the bad:

The problem with the first half was that the join task force and the marines (my team) were pinned down the entire game from the start of the game to the lunch break. Because we were immediately engaged upon the game's start, all of our initial objectives were thrown out the window. This, in a way, took the edge of the scenario.

I am not one to complain when theres an excessive amount of action, I believe it is in most cases a good thing. However, in this case it was definitely not. My team was pinned down from the field the entire time.

To say the least, none of us liked sitting on our asses while we were constantly fired upon. The addition of airstrikes was a much needed tool, and ultimately evened the playing field for our teams to move up on the enemy positions.

Okay, so now the good

The game as a whole was fun, I enjoyed playing as a team rather than a bunch of random airsoft players doing as they please. I always enjoy a well organized airsoft event.

With some minor tweaking, such as the use of airstrikes, and some engagement tweaking for the terrorists, Close Out 2 will undoubtably be an event not to be missed. The turnout was great, the teamplay was superb, and I didnt notice any excessive cheating.

Intel and VIP ideas were good.

Suggestions *take em or leave em*
-First, the airstrikes were great, helped us take some ground on the field - a MUCH needed advantage.

-Second, as I stated before, engagement tweaks will most likely make the game more diverse, rather than one long gun battle.

All in all, great game everbody. Once again, thanks for hosting the game rattler, and thank you gary for allowing all of us to use your land.

See you all at Close Out 2!

This was a good game. I agree that the terrorists had some HUGE advantages the 1st half, but I loved the medic rules. Having to play dead for 2 minutes (and actually having to lay down) was a good way to get everyone out of the line of fire while not bogging the game down with more restrictive regen rules.

In the coming games everyone should bring sunscreen and bug spray
I can't tell you how many people were in the woods and getting eaten alive. Likewise people in the open areas of the field were getting roasted. There were a lot of bites and burns that could have been avoided with a little preparation

I have 2 most memorable moments from this game: 1. Getting shot by the barrels by Dover (great ambush by the way) only to regen and have the following happen: "Ok guys is that sniper still by the barrels?" (BBs hit chest) "*&% Hit! Guess that answers that" (walk back to respawn)

2. Bum rushing J to grenade it, only to have the grenade bounce off of the side of the building and land at my feet. The seven or so guys in the building just kind of stared at me and my lack of hand eye coordination.

Thanks all for a fun day of airsoft

Having been away for a while this was a fun game. The weather proved better than anticipated, which unfortunately also meant skeeter city. By the way, did anyone get bit by a tick? I didn't see any but I've heard this year will be bad for them. I got a nice freaky sunburn streak from between the beret & goggles that will look wierd for a while. Here's what I have for the game.

Good:
- the objectives were simple without all kinds of exceptions.
- comm on the bad guy team was good.
- nice music to raise our spirits.
- I didn't see any safety problems or really bad play (see bad below).
- OCs were wandering around so they'd be available for questions/concerns.
- the regen spot was good (far enough away to put it out of immediate play but close enough that it wasn't a 1/2 day hike to it)
- for me at least the mag restriction was good. I had enough to get involved without constant topping off but not so much that refilling wasn't needed (it helps that they finally came out with G3 midcaps).

Improvement areas:
- (heard of but didn't witness) people using "dead" comrades as shields/instant bunkers. Didn't hear of it again after it was brought to the OCs so the incident was handled quickly & efficiently from at least my perspective.
- in the first half there was a question of if we needed to just secure the intel items or bring them back.
- if a timed regen is going to be used a couple of extra time pieces would help (we had one so it wasn't a problem).
- in the 2nd part I thought we were going to 4:30 (30min, 30min, 1hr from 2:30)?
- is the airstrike what took the hotel out of play?

The problem with the first half was that the join task force and the marines (my team) were pinned down the entire game from the start of the game to the lunch break....none of us liked sitting on our asses while we were constantly fired upon.

The only real answer to that is to force the issue or move. I know myself, one of our medics, and a younger player (don't know your name but you were a short guy with a g36) were pinned by one of the little white pallet bunkers in front of tower D. A line of us were all hunkered down (read "pinned down") in similar situations shooting at bunker J, tower 1, and the long white one near the woods. We had a few terr dead lying around bleeding out. We had to move out of there or push. I believe some of the Echoians moved up with others while some from Alpha squad hit the woods and went down the treeline to tower 1. I know the long white bunker was open to our fire from the woods. I wish I could have been there to see the US end of things, I can only go by what I saw. We started the game from bunker F (over the stream to the North) so assuming you guys started near tower 1 we must have been pretty fast. I know we had a pretty free run of tower 2 and its envrions. I think the only US teams we really ran into north of tower 2 in the first half was the Special Forces group.

Thank you all for making my second game a great game. Thank you for the input. Also, how did the envelopes work out along with the individual briefings, what did you guys think of that? good, bad?

The meat shield issue was taken care of whenever I saw it, mostly it wasnt fully intentional. I really enjoyed OC'ing for this event, great to be out with a bunch of great players.

Op: Close-Out 2 will be hitting the fields later this year, the planning has begun off of the way this game had turned out.

Together (me and jedi) we have something like over 800 pics I think. Here is the album I have so far, more to come.

Thanks again for making this a great game guys, hope to see you all at Close-Out 2

As for the score, I would have to say the terrorists won. They grabbed 2 pieces of 5 of intel and their commander and got the the exfil point. They did get ambushed however and the US SF captured the intel but did not get it back to their base in time.

They Marines sucsesfully captured one piece of intel but destroyed 2 pieces with airstrikes. Also the US SF team captured one terrorist for interrogation.

The terrorists made it out but the Joint Forces did get intel, interpret to which side winning as you may, just those are the basic stats.

Thanks

the "goods" have been mentioned, so i'll mention the parts that i think needs improvement

comms: not many had radios. and those that did have them either didn't hear the calls or ignored them half the time. either require to have them or diligently pair those without comms to those with comms.

directives: in the morning, directives weren't effectively passed down from the COs to the SLs. though this would be more on the players' pad.

medics: not a good idea to not be able to move the wounded. i got hit quite a bit in the crossfire, even when lying down. walking with 1 person having physical contact with wounded OR jogging with 2 persons having physical contact with wounded. works great at other games i've been to.

box mags/saws: not sure what happened here but i though support weapons were only ones allowed box/c mags. i saw 2-3 m4s and 1-2 mp5 with box mags. stricter enforcement for future events is definitely needed

chrono: i got there rather later than i usually get to wgf games, but there were still plenty that got there after me. there was no one there when i went to get my guns chrono'd. so those that arrived after me didn't have anyone for them as well. i can't say for those who arrived before me. i know this is a game of honor but this is easily a point where safety lines can get blurred with those borderline fps. ie someone could be shooting 410 with their bnew dboy (they're notorious for going 400+ out of the box). without an oc there they could just say "it's close enough, it'll be okay". there certainly was enough OCs during the games, there should be 1 that can be stationed at the chrono.

I had a great time being a civilian, Surprising I think I got shot in this game more times then if I was actually playing. The first round I was more or less on the side of the US but seeing as they never made it into the open field and got lit up by one of the SF guys I think I switched. I got searched many times by people but I had nothing on me except a pistol. I was also held hostage by the terrorist leader for the last half hour so was unable to help them.

2nd half was a bit more fun. I decided to arm myself with a pump shotgun( the 3 shot kind.) and had a little fun. This time I started out at 2 and seeing nothing but hearing a lot of shooting in the field wandered on to the field and started geting shot at by the terrorist having none hit me and taking cover in my home ( building A.) I got pissed. latter when things cooled down I made my way back to two and found the US forces and agreed to help them. They were pinned down by three or four guys along the trail so I just wandered down and bang, bang, bang, took them out, after my killing spree the terrorist did not seam to trust me any more but then having been killed about ten times:D I think next time there should be a penalty for killing civilians.;););)

have pics and will upload them as soon as photo bucket allows me to log in:(

Well it's been a few days, but here's what I remember....

Gamelog:
As a terrorist in Alpha squad (consisting of 6 members in total), we started the day by "rushing" (or a brisk walk in my case) from bunker F to the tower 2 area in search of the CIA agent allegedly masquerading as a merchant in the market area. Half of us cautiously entered the market from the East, while the others circled around from the Northwest. We cleared all of the buildings and found absolutely no one....Must have been holiday or something. However, we did find a piece of intel during our egress, which we brought back to our commander.

...Anyway, I'll stop there because I'm already starting to bore myself.....

To summarize though, my day was highlighted with "stalking" (more like following) the Special Forces team and eventually cornering them in the woods to the East of the hotel; a great firefight towards the end of phase 1 at the estuary between tower 1 and the bunker field; respawning and unloading on a group of marines who were hanging out a little too close to bunker F (the terrorist spawn point); climbing down from tower D to be informed by Rattler that I had been obliterated by air-strike; and capping the game off by another great firefight by bunker K at the end.

Commendable:

The music helped create a nice ambiance.
The ammo limit forced me to draw my pistol.
Respawn rules didn't keep people out of the game for too long.
Objectives were simple and straightforward.

Suggestions for improvement (my personal opinions):

The ammo restrictions and death penalties were great, but I wouldn't mind seeing them even tighter.
It would be nice to have every weapon chronoed (only because I'm a whiny pansy who things everyone else's guns are hot ;)).

Overall I had a really good time. People seemed to generally play with honor, the weather was great, and the field has started filling in and drying out nicely (although we did trudge through a couple of especially rank swampy areas in the woods :vommit:).
