Now that I have gotten a few hours of shut-eye, I figured I'd post my thoughts about the weekend of airsoft up at Apoc. As I was OCing all weekend, my views and memories may be a bit different than those of the players.

1. A huge thanks to Dave and Paul at Apoc. If it wasn't for you two, this game would have never happened.
2. A big thanks to TFD for running the event. I may not be on the team, but thanks for making me feel like I am apart of it anyways.
3. Another big thanks to the Millisconsin (Minnesota, Illinois and Wisconsin) players. It's great to see 3 neighboring states come together to pull off great (IMO) events a few times a year.
4. It was great to see some old friend and make some new ones. OpDoc and crew, you guys are nuts, but in the best possible way.
5. The bonfire gang..... wow. I mean really...... I would need a few hours to type down all of your shenanigans. Jonesy, Gir, B-Rick and everybody else, thanks for making me laugh and get very little sleep.
6. Riah, you were drunk and I have proof. You said I was "funny" and "a nice guy". Only drunk people say those kind of things about me.
7. JonJay, thanks for sponsoring the game and bringing up your 'wares to sell. Good looking out for the WI airsoft scene.
8. Paul, admit it, you pooped just a little when the demo went off right behind you.
9. RPG!!! MORTAR!!!
10. D-Dog, your meat on a stick is very tasty. I wants me some more.

Overall, I had a great day (and a half) OCing the games. The new fire base is great (or what is left of it after the pyro) and the caliber of players was fantastic. It was a long, hard day for many of you, as the fighting got really intense, fairly often. Andy's pyro once again was awesome and it was well worth the 6+ hours of digging and placing the pyro, just to see the look on some of your faces as it went off.
Thanks again to everybody who made it a great day. I look forward to Breedland II, the electric boogaloo.

Well, I’ll give you my point of view, as the guy who authored this thing…..

1st and foremost, THANK EVERY SINGLE ONE of you that came out. As I stated at lunch, this was the cleanest played game I have seen in a long time. The calliber of players that made the trip was OUTSTANDING. Only twice all day did I have to settle disputes. In one, both players agreed to a parlay, after one sugjested it…. Even though parlay was not in the rule set (I personaly think parlay is used to often if allowed), I allowed it because both players agreed to it and it seemed to be fair enough, as one said he bang killed the other & the other shot him not hearing him. The other was one where miss communication led to a player (role playing his part) scaired the crap outta another player & a shouting match ensued…. Only problem was that the 2nd guy didn’t know the 1st was just “playing his part”.

I’ll start the positive/negative by teams:
Cesair: I have to say this was one of the best organized forces I have seen at an event (absent Irene). OpDoc, my hats off to the job you did planning and organizing. The negative for this team was it’s communication. I witnessed several occasions where the CO was not receiving real-time intel. I heard players claiming they passed info up their chain of command, only to pass by Vernon & find out he had no idea of it, or vice versa. Case in point, the firebase. I was next to Vernon when he gave the order over the radio for all Cesair to evacuate the firebase. 20 min later, my OC on that field advised that the players there were STILL there and meanwhile, the Cesair push on the castle was running out of steam. Those players at the firebase, were not there to support the push. And of course, they claimed they never got the order… either this was a comms breakdown or blaitant insubordination, but either way, it COULD have cost the game, had it not been for the artilary points.

Domingo: Also a well organized team. Erik’s boys had a great push on the castle to take it almost immediately. They cut through the Mercs, holding that spot and never lost the building. Again, the biggest downside here was communications. I gave several missions out and they simply were not received.

Next, the positives and negatives for us, the game hosts:
It appeared to me that the spirit of what we wanted the game to be was received. Players showed up well motivated and understanding that this was not going to be (at least I hope it wasn’t received as) another paintsoft game. The scenerio seamed well understood and played out nicely. The biggest negative I can think of is the fine details. We introduced a lot of small things to this game without knowing exactly how they would play out. Things like the mortars for example. I am thinking that we needed to take more time to write them into the rules, in greater detail, so that their use would be less confusing. Additionaly, I think they should only be able to rack-up points if the intended target actuialy results in enemy “kills”. The Cesair side launched a lot of rounds, but once Domingo figured out the towers were targets, they simply got out of them, or massed up just outside them and re-filled as soon as a round was fired. This caused great stress to the team attacking, as they hit a tower, expecting to be free of fire from that spot, only to have other enemys fill in the just shelled location and resume the fire on their possitions.

Overall, I think the day was a success, but then, I wasn’t playing. Only those who were can truly say. I will say this though, if it was, it was because of the players… They played clean & fair (for the vast majority) and they had a great attitude.

For those who attended, PLEASE, send me an e-mail or PM. Your input is what we need to make the return to Breedland even better. Thank you again and you are all more then welcome back!

-Bats out.

That's what i want to see...

over and over again.

I had a lot of fun, even though I only got one kill (well... +3 if you include the satchel charge ;) .)

Thanks Batman and the rest of TFD for letting me play a role, it was fun being with GB and the rest of the mercs, they gave their lives trying to protect me, and i end up getting shot by a stray bullet.

The best for me: Seeing the mercs dance to timbaland... wait, i take that back... seeing Paul jump and then duck as the pyro went off 3 feet from him, covering him in sand and dirt (his later complaints included sand in his underarmor, and his perplexity of not know how you can get sand under underarmor.

@ DK,

No problem, next time I am going to tell them that your just a villager... :)

@ Blitz,

It was nice to see how you guys deployed, however, next time make sure enough guys go the 'wrong way' and have some of them filter back down by the swamp but still in vision, so I cant count how many you leave in the flanking positions. :)

Though I have to say until I saw Turnbull on the back side of the white hut start doing a tactical advance I wasnt 'absolutely' sure of what you did.

Nice job.

GB,
that was a mess. that wasnt supposed to happen. i told everyone to keep going towards the landbridge and that pota and myself would walk back and talk to you guys casually inside and pota draws his pistol to kill the minister. unfortunately the trigger hungry guys all ran back w/ thier guns drawn.

when i did first talk to you, you sounded very suspicious. after that one of our guys came to me that the tiger stripe pants is on our hitlist. when we were all huddling up in the firebase we were figuring to just light everything up but that would end up in a bloodbath...

the look on the defense ministers face when I asked him if he was the DM, that was priceless when he had his hands ready to draw his pistol. that was fun. you guys did a good job roleplaying.

Yeah... i backed way the heck back and was ready to draw in case you tried to P.O.W. me or anything... Dave (who played the President) and I both agreed we were going to be dead within 30 minutes of the game, me being the first dead of the two... and i get killed by a stray BB from your guys' assault... 15 rounds go by fast when there is an army just outside... I especially liked the guy who tried to bang us, but didn't get close enough, and I ended up capping him.

Good times, good times... I wanted to lie and say i wasn't the Defense Minister... but yeah, tiger stripe pants can be obvious sometimes... i just wanted to get you guys away from me as quick as possible.

But it was a blast guys... that 5 minute defense made the whole day worth it... well actually paul's incidences, GB's massive radio HQ, and the Red Dragon Security were also what made it worth while... but still, you guys brought some excitement... the other team didn't even look for my i don't think (i wanted to roam on the field a bit, but i couldn't get some personal bodyguards mostly because of the President wandering around in the morning).

I had a great time as well, even with a misfeeding weapon. Props to the Apoc crew and TFD on a great event. I look forward to future skirmishes.

1st Platoon Cesar lost many men in thier mission to assault the castle...all day. The men never gave in though, and kept constant pressure on the Domingos within. We may not have captured the castle, but the pressure allowed 2nd platoon to complete many objectives that ultimately won it for us.

I would especially like to thank Blitz and Umpota for their role as squad leaders. I hope to see everyone I played with at the next skirm.

This is my AAR off the MAA boards..........

OK i would like to thank everyone that organized, and ran the game. Like to thank APOC and the field owner. This is the first time i have played on this field and It was by far the BEST i have ever played on. Just a Big THANK YOU to everyone, players included, it was a very clean and awesome game. I'd like to give a shout out to my BATC squadmates, Had a great time and hope to form a squad w/ u guys at the next game.

Memorable moments:
-being medic for my squad, This was my first time. I thought I did well and had a blast running around. BTW these are just awesome medic rules.
-Pyro. That stuff was just AWESOME.
-Attacking the village for the first time with a few of my BATC guys. Cesair guys were just standing in a circle, no perimeter set up. And we came up through the back swamp undetected....I was just awesome.

Comments:
-The mortars were a great addition to the game and added another level to the game in general. But i think you need to rethink the point system for it, because it ended up coming down to the side that got the most mortars launched. Either keep the points constant for each shot you take or make it on how many people you "kill" with the shot.
-Also clearly define you grenade i did not know we could use dummy grenade and was confused when i got one thrown at me. IDK just something i saw, not a big deal.

Overall, Great Time, Great Game, i hope to come back.....

I'd also like to thank everyone that came and participated in this event. Fox squad of 2nd platoon came from North Dakota just to be at Apoc again after round up II.

I'd just like to say it was an honor playing as Cesair medic/mortarman. I helped as many as I could :D Rest assured, we will attempt to make it down that way again this year. (hoping gas doesn't exceed the price of gold.) OpDoc, you did a great job in leading us; you deserve that awesome plaque you were awarded. I think we should have kept radio contact a bit more, but that happens when we throw a team together that doesn't know each other completely. All of us played our roles well, and it paid out in the end. For Cesair!

Domingo: props to you guys on defending the castle and the counter-attack on the Fire Base with the mercs. After we obtained it, we noticed how wired the place was, so we were getting trigger happy.:) It got pretty intense there for a while.

I used a guncam after lunch, so I will post links to the video i get if it turns out.

TFD: You guys did a sweet job in administrating the event. Keep up the caliber of professionalism and these events will continue to get even better!
Andy: You made me pee my BDUs about 4 different times. I have spent 2+ hours just trying to get all the sand out from my AK. The pyro was awesome, as expected. I think I ate as much dirt as spaghetti.

A pleasure playing with you all, and congrats on a successful op from everyone up here at Northland Airsoft Group. We'll see you folks later this season.

Game was awesome as usual -the Apoc guys, TFD, and everyone else did a great job organizing and doing what had to be done to make it an awesome time.
It sucked that my primary was outa action, but medicing with my pistol was pretty darn fun- playing with Blitz and his guys was cool also.

Time for a role-player's own AAR:

First off, thanks to TFD, Paul, Dave, and everyone else who helped make the game possible, including the people on Domingo and Cesair.
Thanks to Jon Jay for being there with his deck shop. Gave me a chance to pick some items up, and meet a hilarious individual.
This being my first game at APOC, there's so much that happened that I didn't expect. I thought the new Fire Base was awesome as hell, as well as the castle. The night games were excellent, and it also gave me a chance to bust out my gun that I brought for the AEC.
The pyro was amazing. The game wouldn't have been the experience people were probaly expecting without it.
As for Domingo and Cesair, both teams had their own ways of interacting with the role-players, especially their CO's.
Domingo: After the first few times I came to the base, you guys basically greeted me without much hostility. Other than the routine weapons and intel search, nobody really thought of me as a threat... at least until the last hour or so. Thanks for the "Domingo Currency" you guys gave me in exchange for intel as well.
Cesair:Every time I came within the vicinity of their tower, I was searched, mostly treated as though I was hostile (which necasarily wasn't bad on their part). The first time I tried to barter with them for info, it was life or death for me, so I gave them some fake intel, and left with my life. I came back later with some intel, but didn't give it to them without getting something in return, so they shot me (bang kill). After that, I went to give them the same intel for free, but was held up in their base for about half an hour, finally to be greeted by the Cesair CO's P90, with a calm but somewhat impatient "Now what?", or something to that extent. I thought it was hilarious at time because of how unexpected it was.

During the first 30 minutes or so, I walked around searching for the castle but got lost and ended up at the new Fire Base. So I walked back and found my way to the castle. I entered after a few events happening outside of hte castle, and after a short conversation with an OC, soon after I had a camera-man following me with his camera. I was told to walk around the second floor of the castle and mess with some people, so I did. After I couldn't find anyone else to bother, the camera-man told said we should find one more person, whom was guarding the rear gate. Oddly enough, the last person was the one who sent me to the Domingo CO.
After a short walk to the CO's position, I was met with a friendly yet cautious, "Hello there!". I was engaged with a interesting conversation, and because I was "born without a name", I was given the name Freedom, and became a loyal informant for Domingo for pretty much the entire game.
Time went by and info was shared, and while walking back from the Fire Base, I heard one of the Mercs (I think) yell to a group of fellow mercs walking towards the FOB (fire Base) carrying some ammo crates, to something along the lines of "Sh*t! What the f*** are you doing?! If the president sees me doing weapons deals on the side I'm done for!". Eventually the group of Cesair soldiers that surrendered(sp?) were executed, because there weren't going to be any witnesses. It was unfortunate though, that the call for lunch sort of killed the high tension of that happening.

After lunch, things died down for me, so I walked around quite a bit. Not much happened until the last hour and a half or so, when a OC called for the role players. After we all got to where we needed to be the order was given to let off some satchel charges. I went for the front gate, while others went for the side and rear gate. As we walked to the castle, we split up and I took a run to the front gate. As I approached it, I shouted out "FOR BREEDLAND!!!", and pulled the pin. Being the first one to "blow the charge", Domingo was confused and thought it was a claymore, so they greeted me as friendly as before, until they knew what happened. All the trust I built up with Domingo blew up with that satchel, but I got on better terms with Cesair a bit.
After that, there wasn't much left to do for the RPer's while Cesair assaulted the castle. So, we all headed back to the safe zone and that was game for the role players.
In all honesty to the Domingo CO, I felt really bad about "blowing up" the gate, only because of the trust I built up, and because I was pretty much loyal to Domingo the entire game (not saying I didn't give a little intel to Cesair :o).
So, Domingo, I feel bad about what happened. And, Cesair, I'm still waiting for that million dollars to appear in my off-shore account, and for my invisible candy bar.

Highlights:
- The game itself, and the experience.
- Pyro. Wouldn't have been the same without it.
- Night games.
- Bon-fire.
- Jon Jay. I think he deserves his own spot on the highlights, for being so awesome, and setting up shop. Vote Jon Jay for President. ;)
- TFD/APOC Staff. They too, deserve their own spot, also for being so awesome, and hilarious.
- Jon Jay's comments to thatonemikeguy and his girlfriend over the phone.
- Suicide run (satchel charges).
- Raffle. The prizes were amazing.
- Maple's comment to me on the second floor of the castle when I offered him one of my Domingo intel traded lil' smokies: "Your meat is too small for me."
- Are-Pay-Jay.
- Camping.
- Being able to put a face behind some of the forum members names.

Downsides:
- Pyro. I wish I had seen more of it go off.
- Suicide run. Lost all of Domingo's trust.[:N:]
- Raffle. I didn't win anything...
- Camping. The cold was brutal with 3 people in a tent and only 2 sleeping bags. We only got 4 hours of sleep, but I thought it was awesome for some reason.

That's all I can think of for now. Kudo's to everyone who showed, and to those who read everything I typed.

All i can say is WOW, this game was amazing and worth every penny. First off thanks to everyone who got this thing going. Batman and all of the TFD crew you did an amazing job and you better keep up the good work. Also, the field owner cut out a whole day and a half of paintball for us, THAT IS HUGE!!! thanks to everyone at apoc for being so kind and generous. This is also my first time at this field and let me tell you, if you haven't been there go! its an amazing field with many different areas to keep things interesting. There was some of the best airsoft play i have seen, everyone did a tremendous job being honest and fair. With that being said, Thank you to everyone who made this game a success, thank you to Jon Jay for being there and donating so much to the raffle, thanks to the batc squad for making it even better, and thanks for another great day of airsoft!!

Memorable moments
-rolling with trippy towards the end and pushing up in front of the castle near the trenches, and being the only 2 out there.
-Guarding the back gate while mortars and other explosions were going off. After a few of the close explosion went off dirt was falling on the tower i was at as well as on me.
-Brik getting his head chopped off by erik "I'm gonna do it!!! I'm gonna chop his ____ing head off!!!"
-hearing and feeling the report and concussions of explosions from the FOB all the way at the castle!

Comments/suggestions
-also i agree with my brother as we both had this discussion on the ride home. The mortars are an amazing addition to the game and its a really cool idea. But the point system seemed a little weighted for just being mortars. Keep this aspect but maybe tweak the point system or something.
-i also agree with my brother on the dummy grenades. we were both killed by a dummy grenade that "went off" on the opposite side of a log pile from us, which, if it was a shower grenade, wouldn't have hit us. Its a good idea to use dummy grenades but it should be one or the other.
-The pyro was AMAZING!!! it added a huge new field of distraction and intensity. Keep that up!
-The night games were also really fun. It was awesome when me and chadwick low crawled up to the burm and crested the top! That is one sweet addition to an already amazing field.

Thanks again to all of those who made this happen. I will definitely be at the next game and many to come!

Hopefully we accomplished this task so that everybody will have some pictures to remember the “Battle for Breedland”. We hope everybody enjoyed the event as much as we enjoyed OC-ing it. If there are any other pictures out there; Please post it here for everybody. Once again it was pleasure watching you guys as an OC and I hope you will be back for our next game in September.

Even though this was my first game ever going to and just being a role player for the Breedland game, this had to have been the coolest thing that has ever been done. This was an amazing game and everthing was great. With ____ blowing up and just the great adrenaline rush. it was cool. getting to kno tons of new people that actually do go full out with airsoft is pretty cool. Then just the night before with all the great stuff: the night game was awesome with my team winning the game of attack & defend turning off the generator in like 5 mins. Then the bombfire with balls touching ppls heads. Great stuff and i cant wait to play in september.:o

Memorable moments:

at the beginning of the game i was yelling at the whole of Cesair, i stalled them for a good 30 seconds then got them to separate and maneuver around me. finally they got wise and just started shooting. I managed to live long enough to get sandwiched between Domingo coming out of the castle and Cesair pushing through the trenches. My 416 took a dump on me so i just stood up.... and got lit up.

Walking into the castle bidding the door guard a good day and then proceeding to walk around the castle unnoticed for a good 5 minutes.

Coming back to the castle to negotiate with Erik. being used as a body shield by Jonesy as Cesair was coming through the front gate, distracting Erik for a good amount of time until he cut my head off.

spaghetti lunch. mmmmm :D

After lunch dance party!!!!!!!!

Throwing a Cesair player in the POW cage.

Negotiating with Cesar for some crates while DT was hollering at them.

Riding around in DT's Excursion with his 249 creating Havoc.

Confusing the crap out of Cesair after DT bang killed a bunch of them.

posing for Demondog in the castle.

Getting Revenge on Erik with my 203.

getting to play with Breech, Fishy, Ghostbear and the rest of the Mercs.

Also: I lost a plastic knife with a tan handle, and a 416 butt pad.

First let me start off by saying this was one of the best games I have played in! Not only was it fun to play with most of my close friends. It was also good to see all of my extended airsoft family from WI and IL.

I specifically want to thank the following:

Batman - For putting together one of the best games in the midwest this year! While I was very skeptical about it at first, you guys really pulled it off! Kudo's and I will support you guys anyway I can!

Andy - YOU ARE NOT A NICE MAN Your Pyro and vision of what is cool is simply amazing! Watching the faces of people as they hear BOOM and the whistle of an RPG going past them is worth the price of admission.

Dave (APOC) - Your field is by far the best in the upper midwest! It has the size and cool factor that no other field can offer. The recent addition of the fire base is simply amazing. That right there made me want to come back for another event and possibly even host an event there. Your hospitality is second to none and I know I can speak for the rest of the MAA when we say, THANK YOU!

TFD MEMBERS - You guys worked very hard this week (and weekend) setting up and running this event. THANK YOU!

DAEMANDOG (sp) - Thank you for taking so many pics....Hopefully you got some good ones for your website and I hope those pics help draw more players to the events.

While I could write a long AAR, I am not going to. I saw alot of players call their hits and some did not. But for the most part I have to agree with Batman. This was the cleanest game that I have been apart of to date. With the exception of 5 large dents in my "Technical" from people shooting below the 30 foot engagement rule, to members of my own club laughing about shooting my technical on purpuse just to damage it.....I had a blast.

People actually thought I was really pissed off only to be role playing and laughing after everything was done.

I will say this......As mentioned before, I made some comments about the uniform rules. While I still think that any TAN based unform should be allowed on one team and any GREEN based uniform should be allowed on another. I now like these rules for large scale military games. While it provides for team uniformity, it is also very easy to spot enemy forces without having to look for an armband or what color shirt they are wearing. So from now on, I hope other game organizers follow this same pattern.

GREAT GAME and even better time with my friends....THANK YOU!

during the negotiations between Cesairs Co and the contractors w/ their fancy SUV:

blitz: I HAVE RPG!

downtown: YOU HAVE RPG? I HAVE MINIGUN!

haha...

anyways, i will only agree w/ downtown re: tan vs. green IF each squad/platoon will all have the same pattern. otherwise uniform requirement is the key.

I am all for the strict uniform requirements as well. I thought the uniform requirements worked great.

Once again, thanks to the Apoc field owner, Batman and all of TFD, and everyone else who helped make this happen.

Roleplayers,
You guys did a great job. Too often will airsoft roleplayers - myself included - act much more recklessly than they would in a real life combat situation. You guys did a good job.

Erik,
Even though we did not win, I think you did a great job at commander. Many stategical moves that you made turned out to be very wise. Also, got into the part, and made sure to keep the game fun, while focusing on objectives and getting ____ done. I look forward to fighting under you again.

OpDoc,
I got to meet and play with ya during the night games, but didn't see you at all saturday. Congrads on the win.

Andy,
Wow. That pyro was some good stuff.

Sparrow Unit,
Great job yesterday. It was great meeting all of you, I hope you guys have a good time. Make sure your buddy posts up his videos from the day.

BATC Squad,
The first half of the day was boring for some, and I apologize. Someone had to do it. During the second half of the day when second platoon relieved us, I hope you all had a chance to get some. I know I lead most of you up to the Merc firebase (under Cesair control at the time) but there were a couple of you I completely lost touch with. I hope everyone had a great time. Let me know if theres anything you would like to see done next time a BATC Squad is formed up for an OP.

Been a day of recuperation, so about time I responded ;).

Firstly, unending thanks to Batman and the rest of TFD for putting together this amazing event, to Andy for the bitchin' pyro effects, the mercs for their roleplaying and combat aid, to Jon for his support of the game, to the Apoc staff for allowing use of the weekend, and to everyone who came and shot with/at me. Also Jon, you saved my ass with that smart charger, with those goggle going like hotcakes to replace my mask, and the GBB M92 I recieved in the raffle. My hat is off to you good sire, and I will be stopping by your shop for some green gas and one of those nifty chargers.

For identification purposes, I was the guy with the G36C with red dot, woodland camo helmet, and tan goggles. Didn't catch many names but everyone I ran into and fought with had a cool head and was awesome. Echo squadron, it was a pleasure working with you. OpDoc, congrats on leading us to victory, also a pleasure working with you.

Memorable moments:
-I walked in half way through (no idea what was going on), but the ar-pay-jay conversations were quite entertaining. Very nice Gump impressions

-Wearing fogging, tinted goggles at the night game knowing full well a tango had nightvision, and slapping myself all weekend for not bringing my pair. Also, whoever had the melee plunger, I hope you actually killed someone with it

-The initial charge to the castle, and finding out the second we near that Domingo was already inside and opening fire on us

-Pyro covering me in ash near the trenches. Also later the RPG near the Cesair FoB was awesome

-That minigun opening fire on the castle and the trees raining leaves. Amazingly no effect at all on Domingo

-Having Downtown tell us to follow him and being bang killed by him when away from the FoB, only to run our asses off back to respawn to bang kill him back. I know you weren't honestly angry dude, well played ;)

-The argument between OpDoc, the mercs, and one of our own guys that got pretty heated, only to have OpDoc seemingly confused at the end state "I'm only following the story". Hilarious tension relief

-Free lunch, and a damn good lunch at that

-Kicking that red smoke grenade back into the castle after it got thrown out the front door

-Wondering where the hell that guy found that pinata for the load of points it brought. I wanted to shoot it for candy really bad

-Winning a metal GBB M9. Always wanted one, never enough money to allow one. Thanks again to Jon

-The trigger happy Domingo soldier near the end of the day that fired at anything he saw. We poked a gun around the corner repeatedly until he blew an assload of ammo on a barrel of a gun

-Actually breaching the castle at the end via back trap door and holding our own corner of the base for good amount of time only to be blown up by a 203

That's all from the top of my head right now, but the entire day/night games were a blast. I will definantly attend the next event you guys throw in September, and bring some more gents with me. Also, hats off to Domingo for defending that damn castle. The whole day literally became a castle siege because of your defense efforts. Again, thanks to everyone there and all the hard work put into the event. Feel good in knowing that it definitely payed off.

Word of caution for next time...
DO NOT KICK ANYTHING!
Even though it might be cold burning smoke, it still has the potential to do damage.
If something is on the ground that has not been deployed by yourself, DO NOT TOUCH IT!

Just got back from my vacation after Breedland (anniversary with the girlfriend) and finally able to post.

Had a great time as 2nd Platoon leader at Breedland. The guys I ran with did an excellent job and I couldn't have asked for better.

Although there were a few little things here and there that could use some polishing to help the event, Batman and the TFD guys did a fantastic job. The event was a lot of fun to be a part of and I hope you guys build the Breedland series to something on par with an Irene-esque event.

I don't know who did the kicking, but on reflection it does seem like it was a bad idea. I believe an OC was present and watching our conduct outside of the main gate however. Honestly all I remember was it was out, then everyone ran at the area and it went in.

Also, forgot to mention. As sweet as the mortars were, they seemed impossible to silence because of the situation. How did the anti-battery fire work out? I wasn't with our mortar teams, but were they constantly changing position to avoid return fire? And what happened with Domingo? Did they simply accidentally drop a mortar?

And did anyone take video footage?

Well Pelly here’s how the mortar fire worked.

-One 3-man team (2 to carry the ammo/ 1 the tube)

- one ammo crate that carried 6 mortar rounds made of steel and loaded with a primer for sound

- 1 mortar tube

You had a three man team. They had 6 rounds that they could launch every 30 seconds. We did this to slow the team down for game play and justified it by stating that team was trying to avoid an “accidental cook-off” thus killing the team. Once the timer started (when the round is fired) they had five minutes to launch up to six rounds at a given target. Every time the team wanted to shoot at a new target, an OC would “call in” the new grid and another OC (at that Grid) would assess the damage (ie # of kills within 10ft of the round). If the team stayed in position for five or more minutes they would be automatically killed from counter battery fire (from the enemy’s artillery locate off the field). This would keep the team moving and “rushed” the whole time thus adding a since if urgency and pressure.

Basically the premise was this; the mortar teams were rushed because then had to coordinate their attacks (with the OC’s) and physically drop a round in the tube every thirty seconds or more. Depending on how organized that team was… determined how effective they were in sending rounds down range. If the team got to “greedy” and failed to keep track of the time…they’d be killed by counter battery fire. This almost happened a few times.
Another aspect to the play was the need to transport the rounds in a safe manner. This simulated that fact that the teams had primed their rounds to fire prior to moving into position. In game play they were transporting the rounds in a wooden crate. If they weren’t careful in their transport this would result in an accidental discharge of the an actual primer in each round. This actually happened to one of the teams.

When the team decided to “bug –out”, they would have to pack up all their equipment and get the hell outta Dodge. Anything left behind would be destroyed permanently. SO if they left two rounds behind…they lost those rounds permanently.

Basically we were testing a new set of rules that defiantly need more tweaking and better explanations to the crew. Although the rules had a few shortcomings, I think the mortar crews had a blast running them.
I hope that answers your question.

20 May 08, 06:25 PM
Oh damn…forgot to mention. Another premise of the mortar crews was that they had to deploy within line of sight of the target. The purpose of this was to give the opposition the opportunity to identify the mortar team and try to kill them in order to obtain some massive points. After all every time a round was dropped down the tube, a large bang would be heard within a couple hundred feet or so. Unfortunately, due to circumstances during the battle; neither side was able to attack the mortar crews.

21 May 08, 04:37 AM
Yeah, the mortar team was a blast...literally. I liked how we had to coordinate with our forward observers and get a fire mission, then deploy it. Props also to the mortar props themselves, they were pretty sweet. Although one moment we were standing in an open field with mercs on our 6 waiting for an OC for about 6 or 7 minutes.

Peally, great times with you and Alec breaching the castle, we all did well. Unfortunate that it was only i nthe last 5 minutes or so of the battle, or else I think we could have taken it :D

Another thing about that scenario. We were explained to that BB weapons (grenades, M203s, claymores, etc) had to actually hit you to count as a kill. We were called out because someone around the corner launched a 203 into one of the corners of the castle where we were at. I was more than 8 feet away and behind a wall, and I don't know if any of us were actually hit by the BB spray. Even in real life, shooting a 203 that close wouldn't yield an effect due to the arming mechanism..My only gripe about the entire Op, not even a big deal. I guess just a clarification of rules so each OC is on the same page with the players.

Well where to start.

First I want to through my hat off to all of the crew form Apoc and TFD along wiht Batman. You guys rock!!!.

2nd - Pyro... OMG I loved it. It brought back some memories from the sand box. I loved it I just cant say it enough

1st Plt - you guys did a outstanding job. You kept the preasure on them all day and we pretty much kept them in the castle so that they could not come out and get a bunch of the side objectives done.

2nd Plt - You guys did a outstanding job as the Mortor Crew, but as the Mortor Crews Security as well. Great Job.

Recon Squad - You guys did a great job as well even though you had to put up with the Mercs all days but you found their ammo supply and we took it from there.

My Security Detail - I had like 3 XO's and they did a great job relaying orders to me and then sending out orders to all of the squads and such.

To all of you. I could have not won that award with out you guys. Thanks and a big Bravo Zulu to you all

VERY few pictures of Echo squadron, and I don't even know how they got onto my camera... Someone else has the full on shot, as the few I have are at an angle meaning I was not the only taking pictures.

I got through watermarking half of them, only to have the computer crash, so I give up.
Only request I have is that ANYONE using these pictures (daemondog's, jedi's, stelthturkey's (if he posts his), batman's (if he posts his), mine, etc...) Give back due credit to those who took the pictures.

It was one trained operator on the pyro (the blowing it up part) and he would not set it off until it was clear.

Paul (guy in picture) was our guinea pig who we had to scare the ____ out of a few times where we could stage a photo opportunity.

Yeah, how did they avoid blowing people up?

Line of sight is ALWAYS maintained by our Pyro operator (Andy) and no pyro is hot, untill clear. You may spend an entire day sitting on a charge and not know it's there, untill you start to walk away and the spot you were sitting on turns to dust. The only thing is, the charge you were sitting on wasn't powered till Andy saw you start walking away from it.

Yeah, how did they avoid blowing people up?

Not only is Andy trained to make big booms, but we also had detailed maps of where the ordance was burried and no less than 3 sets of eyes on the point of explosion before setting off the demo.
We were (and continue to be) overly careful when setting up the charges. The last thing anybody wants is an accident that causes injury to a player (or OC) and take every precaution to insure that folks are safe.... even though we are blowing off charges within feet of them. The worse thing that happened to Paul was that he had to dig sand out of his under armor. (PWN3D!!!11!!)
