Well, the weather sure was trying to keep us from playing. It was cold, windy, and snowing, and the field was wet and muddy. Almost 40 nut cases showed up anyway.
Teams were dived by clothing: anyone in OD and full tiger stripes played on the Cuban army side, while the rest were Cuban rebels. I think there were 13 on the Cuban army side and 23 on the rebel side.
Due to the fact that the army side had the majority of the experienced players, they were able to easily fend off the rebels in the first phase. In the second phase, the rebels managed to capture two of the army's three bases, but the defense of the third base was just too tough.
The third phase saw the rebels defending fort 2. Although the army's assault briefly held the center buildings, the rebels came back to retake them before the phase ended. The fourth phase was a short game of capture the flag in the open field area, since a good number of people had packed up to go after phase 3.
Game play was good. I saw no problems. There were a couple of instances where I heard people complaining that someone was not calling hits, but I also witnessed multiple occasions where players called themselves out when an enemy yelled out that they had hit them.
I think this was the muddiest I have been after an airsoft game, and also the sorest I have been the next day. Of course, that all is directly proportional with the amount of fun I had. Fighting off all those rebels was a good time, and I sure went through the ammo. All my gear needed a good cleaning, too, especially since my brother and his three sons borrowed a lot of it. This was their first game, and they had a great time.
Thanks to everyone who attended, and to Gary for another great game.
