From United Nations Weekly, Conflict in the Woods
by Erick Bearle

Tanasian and Greenoslavian Forces, tired from a bitter battle of Wood Production rights of a small ares of fertile woodlands they share, have taken to hiring Mercenaries to fight while remaining forces are busy fighting a large Forest Fire started by the explosion of a poorly constructed Chemical Weapon on July 23rd.

EVS Military contractors have sustained heavy casualties in what many experts are calling and extreme strange contracting service. The company has provided military services to both sides of the conflict, angering many int he United Nations and bringing general condemnation against an industry already on shaky grounds for numerous Human Rights Violations and several incidents in Iraq and Afghanistan that has the Canadian Firm ready to close shop.

"Honestly, I love the work," say EVS Employee, Lee Peck. "But we really need more people to really accomplish any sort of major military victory. I mean, we are fighting our own co-workers. This makes it very difficult when attending company picnics or when we run into operators working for the other side at the copy machine or water cooler. I mean, I was just trying to butt stroke this guy yesterday, now I have to wait for him to make copies of his EPS Reports? Makes me long for the carpentry work back home. This war just makes no sense to me."

But the war is not just about killing and maiming. No there has been some major humanitarian aid pumped into the area by the "Where there's a Doerr" Foundation. Judy Doerr says its all about helping two sides solve their problems and work together in peace.

"I never said this war would be over quickly, but when I see that little ninja hood with the beaty goggles, I just want to shoot Lucas in the face with my M190...."

Clearly shaken by this war, we all pray it will end soon and EVS Personell will return home. When that will be, is still anyone's guess.

After Action Report:
Operations commenced at 1130 following a general briefing of all operators. Fire teams were split into two 3-man teams, who were immediately dispatched to their respective bases.

After an additional Orientation of Mercenary Personell, Operation Excessive Overkill got under way.

In all, eight Mercenaries were available making the total attendance at 17. Despite low numbers, we were able to throw a few surprises in. For example...people got shot...alot.

The Medic rules seemed to work out, but gave operators a challenge reaching mercenary forces. Had more players been present, I may have opened up the intended low card values for the Mercs and high values for the actual players.

Additionally, the lack of operators made the initial objective of defending the team leader impossible, so that entire side of story line was scrapped.

The first Scenario was mostly about getting used to the new rules and working with what could have been a changing work force for team members. This never really came through but a few of the more lively operators were killed off only to be bought up immediately by their previous employer.

The first Scenario lasted from 1145 - 200 a good 2 hours 15 minutes. Judy encouraged a break for lunch which at that point was needed. My cold and sore ankles made it painful to move around the field, but I decided to be a trooper and help get everyone through my game. I do appreciate everyone's patience with this game, especially our new players and faces on the field.

After lunch, some of the players decided to run a few light CQB games, but eventually we got under way on Scenario 3, which continued the storyline, but with some interesting twists.

I had initially given Judy details on the Spec Ops mission to apprehend the 5 terrorists. I was not sure if it would be possible to pull this off with the lack of people. But I decided to give it a try with Judy's encouragement as she felt it was just too funny to let go. Besides, I had spent most of my sleepless night creating these objectives and it would have been a shame to let it go to waste.

I approached Squishy and Arnoth and gave them the breifng. The smile on both of their faces said everything. They loved it and wanted to give it a try. They were both issued scarves for both sides and given some exclusions from the general medic rules to help them along.

They were successful hitting Jason, but unfortunately, were acting suspicious and drew attention from Corporal Peck. Their mistake was in not executing him via knife. I assume they did not understand that "All other considerations are considered secondary" meant nothing can prevent the success of this mission.

Felicia, who was in and out of the game due to her tiredness and helping Judy was let in on the Spec Ops mission, which she reacted to by immediately requesting to join in the fight. She wanted to face down her killers.

What should have happened was that once the Security Forces discovered Felicia was an Al Qaeda operative, they would take the Merc money and run. Unfortunately, Hugh was the tireless dedicated Security officer and returned the money to UN Command. Good job guys.

The final push of the afternoon ended up being somewhat of a cluster.... I take responsibility for not getting word to both sides and having them hold fast while they prepared for the final wave. It was our intention to then jump into the Green/Tan vs Mercs game, but it seemed everyone was tired and ready to go home so we called it quits.

The game ended with report Scott defeated Ryan after all other operators were killed off.

So it would appear the Green Forces were able to defeat the Tan, but at the cost of all involved, save one known terrorist known as "The Scarecrow."

Oh yes, and Arnoth did help Jacob shoot Jason by being his "zombie Sheild." Jacob was really excited about that and had a blast.

Thanks everyone who came out and helped me run this game. As many of you know, I almost had to cancel this as I have a bad cold and needed some rest. I also was nursing a sore ankle from the Mexico City game when I kicked in a door.

Extra Special Thanks to Ryan who encouraged me to keep the game going by graciously volunteering Wolf Recon to again play the Tanasian Forces. Despite being undermanned, I was pleased to see the game going steady enough to throw in additional objectives. Also, thanks for bringing that amazingly positive, can-do attitude to this game. It was appreciated and helped to make the game.

Extra Special Thanks to Hugh for making the Security Armbands and for quickly making a fourth at the last moment's notice. He also graciously donated the cost of these materials to the field for us to enjoy for future games. His optimism and dedication to his Security job is also commendable. Thanks for keeping an eye on the little guy, too.

Extra Special Thanks to Jason and Judy for allowing me to host another game at their wonderful field and to Judy for cooking our Good Home Meals. Also thanks for encouraging me to put this thing together and helping to promote the game.

Extra Special Thanks to Felicia for coming directly from work to be at this game with only about two hours of sleep. I appreciate you stepping up for your role and handling it with your usual enthusiasm and eye for detail. Thanks for jumpng into the last half and playing.

Extra Special Thanks to Arnoth and Squishy for fulfilling the role of UN Special Operations and attempting to apprehend Jason "The Hyena." I agree that more people would have made this operation a little easier, but you guys took it anyway and did well. Thanks for taking the assignment with the same vim and vigor you brought to the previous game of "Shoot Squishy through the Window." You will be missed and your desecrated and brutally mangled corpses will take a place of honor amongst the halls of unhonored heros of the United Nations.

Extra Special Thanks to Bear, Tex, Ghost, Corporal Peck, Krista, Jason Curry, Beck, Hans, Nick, Ashley, Katelyn and I apologize if I missed anyone's name. Thank you for sticking through a new set of Medic Rules and an Evolving Game Plan.

As Hugh said, the only losers today were the people who didn't show. That was almost me, but I'm glad I was able to run this one and can't wait for the next one.
