I don't know about everybody on this forum but actually getting to games is a real challenge for me. It really isn't an issue of time rather how I'm going to get there because I'm a college student at UW Milwaukee and I find it too expensive to have a car here in the city.

So I propose we add a carpooling section to forum so it would be easier for people like me to get in touch with people in the area to carpool with.

I guess it could work like the buy/sell/trade section where someone will post LFR (looking for Ride) and post what game and the general area that you live or someone that may have extra room in their vehicle might post WTC (Willing to carpool, or something like that) and post some info.

If this works, then I'm betting we will see higher attendances at actual games and it will allow people to connect with people in their area and hopefully keeping the high integrity I have experienced thus far at sanctioned games.

I second the idea. For those of us who are carless,or for me licenseless, could use a ride.

I have a license, but I'm still on GDL (only one other person in the car:cry: )

Just a question...

Why would you want a seperate section when you can post a question on carpooling in the actual thread for the event?

Wouldnt it make more sense to post a 'looking for a ride' comment inside the thread on the game, which is where the people attending the game are going to look?

I mean it does seem to make more sense than a seperate section that now makes people look in two places for the information on the game.

The problem with that is that your comment gets lost in all the other replies and makes the event thread very cluttered. This new section would allow people to check out the section as though it were a classifieds section and would work like the Buy/sell/trade section where people can place ads for Carpooling.

I think a better alternative might be to start a new thread in the Events section that would be specifically for carpooling for a specific event. I don't know how much of a "market" there is for this sort of thing though. If other people are interested in carpooling for events, please speak up. Ultimately it's something the association will need to mull over.

I'm very much For carpooling, and will offer to give anyone that is going to the same event a ride. I think it is a great way to meet people, and if there is an agreed apon time to arrive and leave, there shouldn't be much issue.

With that said, i sadly will probably only get to one more game this year, but i will post in the appropriate section that i willing to transport stow-aways.

Next year should be a lot better for me. I really only started going to fields this year.

Could you sticky the thread and just make it a Carpool: Need a ride to the Game? Then the posters just post which game and where to meet, etc.

I dont know how to explain what I am thinking about this topic.

I dont think that a carpool section will do anything to help people get a ride to the game. I honestly dont.

I look at the situation like this, if I am going to a game and I am reading the thread on the game, if I see someone needing a ride and I have room, I will respond and tell them where and when to meet.

If I am going to be expected to go to a different section of the forums to find out who is needing a ride, I am going to figure if someone I know needs a ride they will ask and I am not going to go out of my way to find someone to give a ride to. That can be considered very rude, and possibly borderline being a Richard about it, but I have given too many rides to people with no compensation on the gas money. So, I dont go out of my way to make space when I dont really need to.

Some of you are going to be different in this regard, but I dont think that there is a reason for making a completely different section for just people looking for and people offering rides.

As for making a single thread sticky for this, that is going to get way too cluttered to keep things straight.

And I just honestly dont think that it takes more than posting it in the thread for the game. If you dont get a response it isnt because it is lost in the thread, it is probably because nobody has space to offer or just doesnt want to have a rider. I know it may be rude to say so, but I dont see people missing posts from a thread, if they are reading it for the game anyway.

And I just dont see any reason to take it out of the game thread, because that is where the people are going to be that are attending the game. You are going to be getting a ride from someone going to the game and the easiest way to get their attention is to post in the thread about the game.

One or two of you may think that this is a great idea, but to be honest, I just dont see it. I dont see people making the extra effort to go to the carpooling section after they read the game thread to just see if someone else needs a ride or not. I just dont.

I'll back you up, GB.

I don't see the solution being an entirely new thread just for the carpooling. It may look good in theory, but in practice it will be more of a mess.

Just post in the actual event thread that you are looking for a ride. You could go one step further and use the "TITLE" bar of your reply to the thread, and put in there something like "I need a ride!" or "Willing to be a taxi" or something like that to make them stand out better. You could even go one step further than that and use the little icons BELOW the text box when you make a reply, the lightbulb, or the exclamation point sign, or the thumbs up, etc. and make your post stand out even more.

I gotta jump on board with DS n' GB... Whenever I've seen people need rides, it just makes more sense to put it in along with the game.

Like DS said... Post up a smiley or two to make the thread stand out.

Fantastic idea, personally it could work.
