I think just about any game would serve, but there are various ways of getting the most out of your experience. I'm going to make someone else tell you what they are, because I always screw this one up.

PAC,

Pick any game, anywhere, but dont play it.

You want to see how things work, ask the organizer if you can follow an OC on the field for the day. It doesnt sound like a whole lotta fun, but it will by far give you more of the workings and how the game is played, if you can watch from any position on the field, without having to keep from getting shot at.

You will see things that will help from both sides of the equation if you have a good OC to walk with.

They should be willing to describe the situation and let you know what they see happening, so you can see how an oc processes the game from their point of view. Also, you can see when the OC has to call someone out, as there could be someone that needs it. Also you can take the time to wrap your head around the action and not have to be IN the action.

Thats how I would tell you to get the feel for it.

Im with Ghostbear on this one. TOTALY!

Also, I would STRONGLY sugjest attending an AEC. Though some fields have decided to offer their own training course, an AEC not only covers information vital to newcommers, but also gets you access to WAA sanctioned games through out the state. (Some games & fields require anyone under 18 YOA to have attended an AEC)

GhostBear's idea sounds great, i wish i would have had that opportunity when i just started. Merc. also makes a good point, i gained most my experience playing 4-8 person skirmishes in my friends backyard! i think both have great advantages.

Pac, there is also Operation Vig. II, at Apocalypse in Poynette Sept 16th.

Shorter drive for you & a larger game on a larger field, if you can't make the 9th.

Honestly, I think Operation Vigilance would be a good one for you.
For several reasons:

1) I know the guy running it (Kerrick13) and he’s really passionate about what he does. He leads Wolf Recon, knows what he’s doing, is going into great detail to ensure this event will be fun, and he’s just an all-around good guy.
2) There are going to be people there of all kinds of different playing styles and experience levels. Whether you’re inexperienced or a novice player you’ll fit in regardless.
3) It does not require a lot of extensive gear or weapons. You’re welcome to play with almost anything you have as long as it falls within the velocity cap, and as long as you’re wearing safety gear.
4) It’s relatively affordable – the ticket is no more than most events, and even less than others.
5) The prizes that are being given out are very cool. I got the chance to see one of the L96’s at the Wisconsin Airsoft Expo, and they are pretty sweet.
6) It’s coming up soon, but not too soon.
7) It’s at a time of year in which the conditions to play Airsoft are ideal (IMO) – not too cold, not too warm, and the foliage is still in full bloom.
8) It’s close to you.
9) Attendance will be plentiful but not excessive.
10) I’ll be there. Well… OK, maybe that’s not a selling point. :(

As Ghostbear said, ask the Organizer questions, check out the forums, and see if it's something you think you'd enjoy.

4PM, players may start to show & there will be some night games. I dont believe Ryan has planned on them being too heavily intigrated into the scenerio of the overall event, but Im not sure.... Either way, they are also not required.

The next morning is the beginning of the actuial event. (& it looks like thats when I will get to show, as Im scheduled to work that Sat night )
