Even though I get the feeling that no one would be on most of the time, I think that it'd be a nice thing to have.
Try this (http://gabbly.com/http://wiairsoft.com/) It's pretty cool and no spyware that I know of, works in firefox as well.

Seems to work okay. Just a question of how many people will use it.

I think it would be awsome if you could have a chat room cause then we can ask questions and get answers right there, but i think it would be better if it was something like what aim or windows live is like so your not talking to everyone cause ill bet a lot of people would be on and then youd miss the answer/question!
The one problem with a "chat room" is it only benefits those who frequent the chat room often. The main reason we have a forum is so people can ask questions and have them answered in public and then archived so others can find them later via the search function. If we start up a chat room you lose that archive of questions and answers. I say if you want to chat about Airsoft you can always join the guys from Arnies using IRC at irc.arniesairsoft.co.uk and you can find more information here (http://arniesairsoft.co.uk/?go=chat).

TomE, true, but think of all the conversational BS that people post, having little goof off sessions, that could be avoided, if they had a live chat to do it on. Rather then fill thread after thread with silly "your momma" posts, they could do it in a way that others dont have to read through it 6 months later, to get to that important info.

Chat has a lot of merit. We wouldn't lose archives because not everyone will always be in chat, and it will still be more practical to post questions in the forums. It would be great for just shooting the **** which would otherwise clog up the forums.
Oh I know chat has merit, however I don't see how Arnies IRC couldn't provide what you need. I think someone could always create their own channel on Arnies IRC network. I know others have done that already.
I can't help but notice but the ones who want this are not members of the WAA. If you really want it then you need to become a member and create a proposal and submit it to the Executive Committee. Or have one of your buddies who is a member put it together. Its how things get done within our organization.
I do agree it would help get rid of people shooting "the you know what" but thats why we have the Airsoft General Discussion (http://wiairsoft.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=71) area so you can go ahead talk about anything you want...

Okay, lets keep in mind here that most of the people who paruse this page are most likely in the 14-20 years of age range. At that age, who amung us was willing to join any organization, asside from some star-trek fan club for some of you? I certianly wasn't. The only outfit I joined in those days wound up taking me to foreign countries full of people who hated the U S and A and that was at the latter part of me being in that age bracket.
Asside from that, most people in that age range don't have the maturity to commit to an organization.

Are you kidding me? The thread is called "AIRSOFT General Discussion" - a thread for talking about anything airsoft, not shooting the "you know what." Threads have been removed by Mod staff millions of times for being "off topic" in that part of the forum!

I think the primary use for the chat rooms could be for the basic chatter, it's nice to talk to people off the field about whatever you feel like, instead of having to stick with airsoft. I've only actually gotten to really talk to a couple guys on these forums before (other than those on my team), and it makes it a lot better when I go and play with them later on in the year or such. Also, I would just like to point this out, but Arnie's Airsoft does not have their own IRC Network, they just have a channel on the QuakeNet Network (www.quakenet.org).
If I had the time right now, I would put a proposal in.
I think a chat would be a good idea, a good place for questions to be answered (immediatly;) ) and a place to hang out and talk about events. Im all for it.
Yeah, small questions that people have could be answered immediately, without having to refresh a page over and over, hoping someone will post. You wouldnt have to worry about it getting buried by other topics, either.
Am I correct to assume that providing a service like this would cost money?
If so, then I'd suggest becoming a WAA member and putting forth a motion for this, because I can almost guarantee that a chat room will never be created just on the merit of a non-WAA member saying that it should be.
Depends on the type of chat software that would be used. There are free ones but bandwidth considerations need to be taken into account.
It will cost more than money also, don't forget the man power. How are we going to make sure the ones giving the answers are giving the proper one? Is there any WAA members who can dedicate their time to sit on the chat to help visitors and answer questions? I know I can't with three kids and a full time job I'm lucky to find an hour or 2 a day to myself.
I would say it would be more productive to ask for an off topic section open to everyone sorta like what the MAA has so that everyone can shoot the excrement...

Bandwidth is the killer on the chat thing.
I cant help but think that there must be some place that has chat for free. Like the free forums that every team has.
If someone can find a free chat system that we can use, it could be possible.

the one Doc posted is pretty neat, but I don't think there is any way to moderate the room at all.

Well since I have stirred -stirthe: the chat pot I might as well say something on this end.
I thought it would be cool to have somewhere to as everyone says "shoot the poop" and as far as people sitting in the room 24/7 to moderate it... It should be made self moderated or at least have WAA members sit in the room whenever they want to (not required) to kinda have a "show of force" or "show of presence"
And as for this thing about me NOT being a WAA member and proposing this chat thing my response is OK lets go!

I used to use mIRC for chatting... I am sure there is some freeware or free online chat programs, just not sure where to look anymore.
