I live in Sheboygan county and have become very interested in Airsoft. I like the idea of reanacting. I served in the United States Army and have been out for 17 years. This would be great. I don't know a whole lot about the game. Just what I read here. Also don't know which guns are good...Slowly catching on.:) Thanks, Rick

Well, when you are looking for a new gun, remember that you will usually get what you pay for. I know many of you will start a depate with me but sticking with getting a Tokyo Marui(tm)or a Classic Army(ca) will be a good choice.

Since you live in Sheboygan, I would recommend going out to the grand opening of Wisconsin Airsoft Wars on Saturday. The owner of the store is pretty nice and plenty of veteran players will be there (I know some of Rattler's team will be there). That would be a great opportunity to actual handle of the guns and ask questions.
Again, Welcome to the Forums!
Where in Sheboygan CO are you located?

i wouldnt exactly call them veterans. They havent really been playing that long comared to some. no offense guys, i havent been around long either
Yeah, I don't call myself a veteran personally... I've been playing for around 8 years, but half of that time was playing with crappy crappy stuff from Wal-Mart. It was a start, but I've only been playing publicly for the past three and a half years. Granted I know my way around most guns and what not, but I'm just stating my opinion on my "status" if you would call it that.

I was like 6 years old when i started playing then????
Honestly, if you have any questions, try the search function on the forums. If you can't find the answer that way, feel free to ask.
Be warned, if you ask, you will get 100 different answers from asshats like myself and only a few of them are going to be helpful (the rest will contain useless rantings of know-it-alls like myself and A-Ron's super hot girlfriend :o )
So take care in what you believe on these or any airsoft forums.

You can't deny that all of those people on that list know their **** when it comes to purchasing and using airsoft guns. Purhaps I should have clarified that.
I chose that list because I have interacted with all of them, and each one has proven that they know what the heck they are talking about. I have not talked with Kerrik13, but when you hear nothing but good from others on that list, you can't help but feel that the person is qualified to help another out when they are searching for a new gun.
I didn't want to fall back on the 'search' line due to the fact that that would not give him a list of people that know their a** from a hole in the ground.

The list that I gave is by no means the only people on this forum that know what they are talking about...the list is one only of people that I have...oh, read the above post by me.

I would argue some of the names, but I don't feel like getting into it with anybody tonight.
As stated before, there are plenty of people on the forums who tout that they "know aegs" but really don't know much more than what they read or have been told by a teammate or friend. You will have to wade through the crap to find the gold. So take warning and do some research about things you read on this or any forums.

p.s. I'm a newb too. Been playing since last week Tuesday..... but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express and I sold airsoft guns for 2+ years at my game store.

...alright...
I'm really not looking to start anything here.
Everybody is entitled to their own opinion...everybody.
Anybody can post anything on here...so, for all you know, I'm just making up names of people. I may be listing names that I remember. I may be listing names of members of this forum that I've had good experiences with. I may be an alien bent on killing every hampster in the world.
Botom line...use your discression when reading anything on this or any forum. All I can do is say my opinion...that is all anybody can do, with some exceptions.
The only person you can trust is you, so if you have the time, do your own independent research...on multiple forums...on multiple brands...in mutiple languages...whatever. I'm done with this incident...any issues with what I've said, PM me.

I can only imagine how much fun you have on the field. I hope you do anyway.:) I was looking at the Classic Army CA 36 or the Marui mp5sd6 ? Are the much different? "plan" on playing in a big area...
Most guns stock are going to perform at relatively the same levels. It boils down to get what YOU like. Some will telll you to stay away from an mp5 for outdoors. BULL. Does just fine. Buy what you like.......
Oops...forgot to add. CA is generally upgradede a bit from teh factory. And it comes with a metal body. If ya wanna drop the cash that is a decent place to start. Got upgrades(light ones) already.
I have little experience with the CA, so my opinion won't be very valid. In the past, CA had a spotty track record with QC, but from "what I have read and heard" :D they have improved imensely. I think Kerrick (or one of his teammates) has one, so maybe they can pipe in to give you their personal experience.
As for the TM, I have owned several TM MP5's and have been happy with them all. The only down side I have with them is that their hi-cap mags tend to suck, which can easily be fixed by not using hi-caps and sticking with mid's and lo's.
Both guns are on the short barreled side, so even with upgrades, you will be out distanced in an open field fight. This isn't a bad thing, because it will make you fight smarter, rather than relying on your aeg's abilities.

p.s. I usually don't have fun playing airsoft at public games. It gives me headaches and makes me hoarse from yelling at the asshats.(I am not lying)

Isnt the CA36 being vague? which one are you talking about?
CA36C-Short
CA36K- medium size
CA36KE- LONG rifle.
Actually the CA36 is the "long" variant.
I've owned one before, and its a great gun. It came down to lack of time to tinker with it, and lost desire for it so I sold it to Downslide, regretted it ever since.

I currently own a Classic Army MP5SD2 and previously owned a Tokyo Marui G36C....which I guess doesn't help you much. ;)

The crazy bunch that lurk these boards sure can add some flavor to any post :)
As for my personal experience with guns...
CA for me and my team has been 50/50 on their quality. One gun we get will be insanely good and never need repair, and the next we get will be broken straight out of the box. For us, CA has been hit or miss, but the upgrades internals and metal body are pretty nice. The shining gem of CA was "Old Faithful", an MP5 A2 that was man-handled by lots of people almost every weekend for 3 years... not once was it ever repaired. It looked like hell after being dropped on rocks, in mud, in snow, in water, stepped on, hit against trees, etc... but it never stopped firing. If you want a really good gun, I would probably recommend getting a CA (in order to get the very solid and/or metal bodies) and then squarreling away some cash to put better upgrades in it.
TM for me and my team has always been very solid. Sure, they may have plastic bodies and only shoot about 280 fps, but the overall performance of pretty much any TM gun my team has purchased has been very good. My Knights SR-16 started out as a TM and it shot great for a long time. The plastic tabs on the M16 body broke, but zipties solved that. Then the gearbox cracked, but it still shot, so I used it for probably another 6 months. That is when I finally bought all the parts to turn it into a really good gun and it was no longer a TM :P
For the chinese clones, some are shining gems and some are definitely "you get what you pay for". We've bought and playtested a lot of the clones and so far they have been working fairly well. The newest guy on our team recently bought the JG G36C and it shoots about 360 fps right out of the box. For the price tag, I was amazed. I don't know how the durability and longevity of the clones measure up, but I am going to assume it is less than the TM and CA guns... we haven't had enough playtesting to thoroughly get some experience with the durability of the chinese clones. The reason why I like the chinese clones is because it gives me a chance to buy some "roleplaying" guns so I can look the part. I can purchase a UTG m14 so I have something that looks a bit more WW2-ish (emphasis on "bit"), an MP40 to play the german side of WW2, an AK47 for opfor games, and a long barrel M16 for vietnam games. Instead of dropping a serious amount of cash for each gun, I can afford the much less expensive clones.
Again, it all depends on your budget and how much you want to play. If you can spend $500 and intend to play every weekend, don't buy a clone... buy something nice like a CA or TM. If you have about $100 and still want to get into the sport, maybe a clone is the answer for you until you get into it more. Hope that helps... and feel free to keep asking questions! :)

Welcome to the addiction we all call airsoft, Rick.
Take your time choosing an AEG to buy. If you rush into getting a gun you'll most likely end up unhappy.
Hope to see you in the field soon.
