View Full Version : Press release from the secretary's office

Mr. Crow
06 Dec 06, 05:03 PM
As many of us are aware there are two distinctly different yet somewhat similar styles of airsoft events.

Lame
Cool

Just kidding.

The "older" style of the game is known today as Mil-Sim. This is a term used to describe a game play that follows very strict guidelines usually geared towards heavy backstory and scenario description. Teams Like Group W have thrived in this enviornment for years.

Then there is a style which some call "Paint-soft" This style is geared for quick and heavy action. the scenarios yet less scripted, are more structered to get teams at eachother's throats quick and hard.

Many of us "including myself" play alot of the latter. I have adult ADD and it suits my lack of patience. But like many like me I am offended by being described as a paintsofter. I don't use paint, and unlike a paintballer I am not a neanderthal.

So from here on out, the style of game formally described as "paintsoft" will from this moment on be called "Action gaming" or just "Action" airsoft, as that really is the basis for the style. Quick and heavy action.

And so it is said that the Mil-Simmers and the Action Gamers came together in peace for the first time and it was said that harmony was heard.

Wow, I think that "Action" gamers is a great way to describe it.

Hey Crow,

Not too bad of a release. We should do lunch more often. It looks like people like the new name.

Btw I do like the term "Action Airsofter" even tho I have a paintball background! Now its up to the great community to adopt such a term.

So Crow...does this make it a Man Law?

Or to be PC a "human-kind" law?

Btw I do like the term "Action Airsofter" even tho I have a paintball background! Now its up to the great community to adopt such a term. I think its a great term to use as well. But the thing is, half the nation uses the term paintsoft yet, so there will be variance, and the term will always be out there.

Good job Crow & GB.

Are we officially deeming "paintsoft" a derrogatory term here? I know it has been used that way in the past, and not everybody got it.

BTW, I think "action gamers" should come up with a slogan. It just sounds like the type of play that would have one. Maybe "Hit hard...fast, and die the same". I don't know, something like that.

I'm liking the term, although I do like a Mil-sim game better. But hey, once and awhile a fun game is good too.

TomE
07 Dec 06, 06:27 AM
Isn't the point to have fun _period_ or am I missing something?

A-Ron
07 Dec 06, 06:29 AM
Your missing something. Airsoft is always serious, no matter what style you play ;)

Just kidding... But what you need to remember, is that the MilSim crowd has fun doing what they do, along with the paintsoft, er.... AA crowd. It's just their prefered style of play.

Hell, I'll go to any game I can, may not be fun for me, but its a chance to get my weapons up and working for when I actually need them. If I have fun in the mantime, then it might have been worth it to me.

I can see where you are coming from A-Ron, I just don't know what I like so I try to play as much as I can in so many different types of games.
Someday I will know if I like broccoli or not or if I like ice cream better. It just takes time eh?

If I have fun great. If I don't I will make a mental note and not attend those games in the future. I will admit that I have not been to a game I haven't liked yet. Other than maybe Kade's games.... ;)

jk

I think the AA term is pretty good but somebody allready raised the point that everywhere else its paintsoft. Personnay I prefer a game that leans more towards the mill sim side of airsoft though I have never been to an offical MilSim event. None the less as long as you have fun who cares what the term is.

Personally I've never seen anything derogitory to the term "paintsoff". It's like compareing apples to oranges.....2 different games. For those that take offence maybe you should look at why it offends you.

Are you suggesting that the...paintsoft/AA...are semi-embarassed about their way of play? That makes sense to me...
Think of people who play one type of game that others don't (i.e. pokemon). Those that play it tend to deny it unless in the presence of fellow "pokemon players".

If I'm missinterpreting you, let me know...if not, good point.

I don't think that's what he was getting at... he was more saying there is nothing really bad in the term paintsoft and somebody shouldn't take offense to what name is given to the type of games they play... unless of course you play pokemon or manopoly.

I don't think your idea really comes into focus with paintsoft/milsim... most people are pretty content with saying what they play (such as a friend who says he's a paintsofter cause he loves capture the flag games). I personally like a mix, though I love a good milsim game, but when they mix a bit it keeps it fairly fast moving and challenging at the same time.

I think we should split the WAA and make WAAA and WMSAA (okay, not really... that'd be a pretty dumb idea and doesn't really focus on uniting the common airsofters of Wisconsin, but it's fun to make up acronyms :) .)

sniper-aab....you are vaguely right. I have never looked at it as a lesser form of the sport. Hell....I have helped on a few games where part of them were designed stricly with that in mind.

Hey,if that's what tickles your fancy then be load and be proud...lol

Hells yeah, workin' the corner every night and day, trying to monopolize the jiggalos.

Do paintballers see it as such a bad term? Speedball vs woodsball? I havn't played paintball in years, but my understanding was that woodsball was more "milsim-ish." Does that group of players take offense when they play a game style such as "speedwoodsball?"

TomE

Nope.... To be honest I don't care anyway, I just want to have fun. I won't have a hang up if someone calls it Nerf-herder-soft or Xtreeeem-soft either ;)

I do prefer mil-sim, but I've been to several a mil-sim game that I havn't shot more than 25 rounds through my weapon in a day. Not that there is any shame in that, but everybody loves action. Many mil-sim games will have a "shoot 'em up" segment at the end of the day to burn off extra bb's. It's a good release and a generally good time. I believe both styles have their place, just as suggested in the paintball analogy mentioned earlier.

Look, I'm all for dropping the "stereo-types" and having the "2 camps" come together in unity and harmony, but for crying out loud, people just need to lighten up. They are just words to sum up a style of play in a way that people can easily relate to.

And for the record, it is obviously "PAINT-SOFT." There are EVEN PRODUCTS SOLD SPECIFICALLY REFLECTING THAT!

Matrix Airsoft / Paintball Tactical Combat Battle Tube (http://www.evike.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=W&Product_Code=ACC_CombatTube&Category_Code=ACC_BBACC)

Now, I'm sorry but this thing SCREAMS "PAINTSOFT" with all kinds of shiny candylike goodness.

I won't have a hang up if someone calls it Nerf-herder-soft or Xtreeeem-soft either ;)

Please refrain from using NerfHerder Soft or Xtreme-soft as both of those names have been patented by:
NerfHerder Soft - Princess Leia
Xtreme Soft - Mountain Dew

;) back at cha TomE. :)

In all seriousness, I am not sure why people are still hung up on "what do we call our style of airsoft".
Sure, I am one to pick a fight (sometimes warrented, sometimes not) and have slung around Milsim and Paintsoft as much as 10 people combined, but why is there such a hang up on the whole name thing.
Play the game how you want. If that involves slinking around in the mid for 4 hours to get a single shot off, then so be it. If it involves shooting 10,000 rounds to hopefully make a single kill, then that's cool too.

And for those of you who have complained about the Xtreme Soft thing, get over it. It was meant to be a joke. If you are really bent out of shape about it, I think you have some bigger problems to address than how you prefer airsoft. But if you are one of those people, don't fret, you will most likely never see me at a game again, save for a special "role" appearance here or there, so you won't have to worry about me ruining your Saturday (or Sunday) afternoon.

As a final thought (since I know a few of you are fuming mad as you read this) IT'S CALLED AIRSOFT, no matter how you play it. If you are organizing a game, then let people know how it is expected to be played. Enforce those game play rules. Don't worry about if it is Milsim, Paintsoft, Action Airsoft, NerfHerder Soft or Xtreme Soft......
Just trade some bb's and be content that you can still manage to run around outside and play Army-man.....

I'm all for BB trading, but why must we do it so violently?

Black_Kade
14 Dec 06, 06:11 PM
I agree Jun, we should make our guns less dark mean-looking colors and instead of killing the enemy it should be tagging them. And maybe when we're done we can form a circle and let our true feelings out, "it's okay, crying takes the sad out".....

NOT!

Maple that was my point, who cares what its called lets just have Fun!
Airsoft isn't about having fun, it's about gaining a reputation for how cool (or in my case, uncool) you are and then flaunting it. it also about trying to discredit anybody who doesn't agree with you (guilty as charged officer, but I'm not the only one)

So stop mentioning fun in the same sentence as airsoft unless it's something like this:
I had fun ruining your airsoft game.
