....see title.....
BE (Big Elephant I think is the name) makes a clone, a knock off that last I heard, was using plastic, or a mix of plastic-type and metal gears.
GWS makes a conversion kit for a G36 that you can install.

BE actually stands for Both Elephant, but close enough.
Also in case you are talking about real steel, it was slated to be made by HK, but was officially cancelled on Halloween 05.

Also, Airsoft Extreme makes a full assembled M8 rifle in Black/grey, OD, or Tan.
A TM G36 is used, so quality wouldnt ever be an issue.

Well makes one too, but like Timmay said, I'd go with the TM G36 Conversion Kit or w/e it's called.

But that's $495 + shipping.
You could find a new TM G36c for $250 shipped, and a conversion kit for $220 shipped. Which is obviously $470 shipped for the same thing. It just depends on whether you want to save that $35 or so by doing the work yourself.

Doesn't firepower make a mid grade one? (unless that's the one you have already, then nevermind)
EDIT: Also, I don't think the mid grade firepower can be uprgraded, it has a plastic gear box.

UN Custom (http://www.uncompany.com, click Custom Guns, then the first link that says Other) makes 3 (custom, tan, black, and OD) but they aren't cheap. $735 w/o shipping, but it is pre-upgraded.
-Marui G36C Based
-GWS Custom XM8 Conersion Kit (BK) Installed
-KM M1A1 (300mm) TN inner barrel Installed
-Sanyo 1100mAh Twins Battery Installed
-Power option from 350fps to 400fps (At your preference)
-Gears, piston head, nozzle, spring and metal bushings are upgraded (All Systema Parts)
I've seen the work that UN Company does, and it isn't bad, but it isn't the best.
Your better off having someone local do it, because if something goes wrong, then you know that you might have a better chance at them fixing it than sending it back overseas.

I could care less if its a plug for myself, or any other gunsmith in the state. Its still a rip off for the work they do.

That looks too much like some goofy-assed laser cannon for me to carry it with any feel of badassery.
SRC makes one, and I heard it doesn't totally suck.

I've got a firepower one that I won, never used it in a game, actually, don't know if I've ever used it period... maybe one mag for the heck of it... seemed decent...
You want? I sell it cheap!
The Firepower XM8 is made by BE.
If you open the gearbox & replace the piston head o-ring with a larger one it makes them shoot substantially better. you could also replace the gears & other internals with metal parts if you were so inclined.
BE also makes a version with a metal gearbox, if you can find one, they are decent.

Check into an AGM XM8. Still a chinese gun, but it's supposed to be far better than the BE.

I have a friend with the AGM XM8. I can confirm his has a metal gearbox, unlike many of the BE ones. If you want a good XM8 your options are pretty limited.
Also, to my knowledge the red dot isn't functional (there isn't actually any dot) and there is no built in laser sight like the real XM8.

Yep, most of the BE XM8's have plastic gearboxes. If you can find one with a metal gearbox, I would advise against it. I can say from experience that BE's gearboxes aren't all that great. My BE SL8's gearbox needed some work, but I was planning on replacing everything anyway. Right now, the only thing left from the stock gearbox are the gears and a few other minor pieces. Comparing my BE with other chinese clones I've owned and handled, the quality just isn't as good. Go with something other than BE if you want a decent gun out of the box. I've heard great things about the AGM on different forums.
As for the scope, people have modified the carry handle to fit a red dot. Check out the ASR forums if you're curious, it's actually pretty cool, if you're into the modding thing. Good luck on your search!
