View Full Version : What type of games and guns?

Hi, I'm planning to get my starters AEG this weekend.
But what kind of events are most often held here in this area??
Are they mostly CQB or woodland or some other type?
Reason I'm asking this is, I'm planning to decide between an M4 type or MP5 type of gun. I am planning to go to the war game room this saturday and get one.
Also is it better to get the ICS mp5 instead of the TM MP5?? I read this review that made it sound like the ICS was God's gift to MP5 lovers? Or is it not so different from the TM other then the metal body? Anyone know the answers? I tried the search feauture and the event section. But I'm not too familiar with all the terms yet. Please help me out?
Scratchy
Not to many cqb games are held here, but they do show up every now and then. Gary is planning on putting a cqb type of area on his field, but that wont' be for a little bit yet. Mostly woodland games go on, but Garys field has an open area with a few structures out in it.
As far as ICS vs. TM, its personal preferance, IMO!
Scratchy-
Majority of games in the area are woodland/ open games. CQB is few and far between. Even with Gary planning on opening a CQB facility, I personally think you are better off with an M4 (my personal preference over the MP5)
It'll serve you better in the woodland games, but can be used very effectively for CQB. Just ask any SWAT officer or guys in Iraq. Majority of them use M4's.
Since you asked, IMO, ICS sucks ass. Their bodies are good, but internals blow. Stick with TM, especially if it is your first gun. You're better off with the good old reliability of TM when you start, vs. the sometimes finicky nature of other brands.

Thanks for the quick answer Colonel Maple and RTO. Guess I'll be looking for some kind of m4/m16 variant at the war game room :)
Go with the M4. You'll be happy, there are a lot of mod parts available for it and it is a good gun in it's stock form. Plus with a little basement maneuvaring (sp?) practice, you'll be able to use it in CQC situations. Both Batman and Archos from TFD use M4's in CQB and seem to kick ass doing it.

Not sure what Gary is charging for them. Hit him up with a PM. Last time I bought a gun from him, it was a G&G, and they are much more expensive than TM. I suspect the gun alone will not cost you more than $300, unless you buy a M4S.

I called the war game room today. And I was told they don't have the M4S or something? Because they are changing to a new version? It would suck if I drive down there and they don't have any M4 at all
Is that your rifle RTO? That looks awesome :o And if my memory serves me right. Is that a M4 RIS?
yup, thats my baby, well one of them.. and its actually an Sr-16 with a telescopic stock, and a bunch of extra stuff. the gun alone took me quite a bit to get to what it is at right now, and she costs more than what i want to admit

I wanna get me one of those too...
You can build onto just about any M4 that you start with. The nice thing about TMs are that they are very modular and very accepting of new pieces. So the gun you have in a year, could be a completely different M4 variant than the one you originally buy it as.
Oh, and why don't you hop over to the New Player Introductions thread and tell us all about yourself?
Mark
I actually own both an M4 and an MP5a4. Now don't get me wrong, I love my MP5, but for open fields and versatility, you can't beat the M4. RTO has a sweet variation on his and most of those parts are widely available in multiple price ranges. You can pretty much customize the crap out of it to fit your needs for each game if you chose. The MP5 while compact and an overall nice weapon, there is only so much you can do to it. Both of mine are ICS, but I won't get into the ICS vs. CA vs. TM argument.
I too own an Mp5a4, lol, and as "d" says, it is a nice versitile, compact, weapon, with preformance just a little below par to the M4. Mine are both TM, and I've owned CA before, and I like them all.

I personally prefer a M4/M16 series of weapons, but I think that's because the Army brainwashed me... no, they just got me used to it...
anyways, I'd stick with it, worst case if you're somewhere and you run out of ammo and need a mag fast, lots of players have M4/M16s and can throw you a mag, as long as you give it back to them!

Thats what I love about M4's they are like legos. Build them up and down all day long.
Technically my M$ is TM, but only about 15% is origonal. This is all different parts put on later.

Oh.. I just read some review saying that the Tokyo Marui M4 models have some rattling and wobbling problems??? Is this true? Oh and since I'll be getting a gun this saturday. Should I pick up a full face mask or just some goggles? Don't really want to look like a dork. Wearing a full mask when everyone is just wearing goggles :s

LMAO @ "legos!"
Yeah, Scratchy. The Mauri M4 series has a chronic history of "barrel wobble." which is basically the outer barrel coming loose from the receiver because of it being torqued around during skirmishes. For every review I've read about the problem, I've also found a half dozen threads on how to fix/aleviate the issue. Also, the newer Mauris have had the problem "corrected," whatever that means. The barrel wobble is an annoyance at best.

My first AEG was a CA M15A4 Carbine, have had no problems with it. I have had it for 8 months just upgraded it with spring and cylinder kit. Has full metal body so no barrel wobble that can happen with a TM M4 and has metal bushings and will shot about 310 in stock form. Many people are against Classic Army because of problems when they first came on to the market, but their quality control has increased dramaticly. My next AEG will most likely be the CA SLR105 (ak74).
Beasthunter33
16 Mar 06, 07:16 AM
I will agree with stylin on CA improving it's quality control, for awhile I would tell people to avoid CA at all cost, but after working on my friends new CA36 my opinion has much improved. The design of the gun and gearbox is very straight forward and everything looked alot stronger then any stock TM gearbox I have ever worked on or seen. I still wished I had gotten a different gun then the M733 I started out with. I started trying to do just a basic spring and bushing gearbox upgrade two years ago, I have since learned alot and know what I did wrong, but to this day the gun still has problems and I attribute this to the design of the V. 2 gearbox. IMHO they are designed to break, especially the ICS gearboxes.
just my .02 cents.

Well, it seems that Gary does not have any TM M4 rifles in stock  Any alternatives? Or should I just have him order me one? Maybe have him order a TM M4S? I read those don't have the wobble?

The gun all depends on you. Personally I own an M4 (havent noticed the barrel wobbel yet) and love it. But.....I found a new love...the M16 VN. If I were you I wouldnt jsut buy any gun because you want one right away, I would wait to you really know what you want and like. :)

I am telling you now from actual experience working shooting and holding a CA G36, if you are gonna get one, get that one!!! Hands down the nicest gun I have ever held (besides a Browning 20ga Lightning Over/under, but that one I didn't get to shoot, though I did enjoy holding it for a while :D  ).
Ever since shooting that thing my entire excistence has seemed inadequete. Diffenetly on the list of guns to get for me.

16 Mar 06, 12:51 PM
Hmm... the CA G36C isn't full metal like all their other guns. would that make them similar to the TMs?
its actually said to be "glass fibre" like that of the real steal G36, if i'm not misatken. someone please correct me if i am
owned one, traded it, and now somehow one of my team mates has it again, lol, but they are indeed nice weapons. they allow for customization just as much as what an m4 does, and they have numerous parts out for them. another good beginners weapon if your looking to start out with something versitile... but then again, almost every arisoft gun is like that, its what you put into it and the sport that makes it unique

Honestly, I use an m16 VN, and I love the thing. It is not big at all, then again, I am a big guy. People just complain. I like the bit of extra accuracy that the barrel offers. Plus it looks badass. If you like it, go for it. If you are a guy with a smaller frame, lets chat lol j/k, but seriously you might want to go with an m4 then. It is preference overall.

I have heard from a fair number of people that started with a G36C or MP5 and end up wanting something with a longer inner barrel after a short time, Just something to think about.
Beasthunter33
16 Mar 06, 05:07 PM
The CA36 (depending on the version, there are three) has a pretty long barrel. one I would say is M733 length barrel wise (CA36c), one is inbetween (CA36k) about the length of an M4, and the last one (just CA36), is easily the length of a SG-1 barrel, though it doesn't feel as long as that, nor is it. Maybe its a tightbore that it comes with, idk, all i know is that that gun was a tack driver, and can shoot as far as any gun I have ever seen (airsoft that is).
Scratchy
16 Mar 06, 06:17 PM
Yea. I was thinking. If I do get the G36c I can always convert it to a longer barrel later on.
Scratchy,
Don't let people sway you one way or the other over which style of gun to get. (I know, I suggested the M4 over the MP5)
Get the gun you like the best. For the most part, all stock guns are fairly equal, and it is what you do to it with upgrades that makes the difference.
You are going to get 20 different opinions from 20 different people. Beasthunter is a big CA fan, a lot of people are TM fans and I personally am a G&G fan.
I would suggest sticking with a TM for your first gun, as they are fairly reliable and a lot of people can help you fix it if it breaks. Once you are used to how a aeg works and what not, then I would suggest testing out different brands of guns.

Are you sure it doesn't fit? It may be a magazine for a springer, instead of for an AEG. Most (I repeat, most) of the M4/M16 magazines on the market are fairly interchangeable from gun to gun. The one M4 body that has the most problems is the Well R6, but the rest are pretty forgiving.

I am just using 21st Century Airsoft because they have good pages for example purposes. Personally I have foind them a little high priced when you include shipping. Gary should have the right kind of magazines for you though. But here are some examples...
TM 300rnd Hicap (http://21stcenturyairsoft.com/details/M16300)
TM 68rnd lowcap (http://21stcenturyairsoft.com/details/M1668)
STAR 30rnd lowcap -yeah, they're plastic and cheap, but they work and you get a lot of them... (http://21stcenturyairsoft.com/details/STARM1610)
Classic Army 300rnd Hicap (http://21stcenturyairsoft.com/details/P029M)
MAG 120rnd midcaps - yeah, they're plastic too, but they hold 120rnds with NO WINDING. I have some, they work. (http://cgi.ebay.com/MAG-M16-M4-Mid-Cap-120-Rds-Airsoft-Magazine-BOX-of-8_W0QQitemZ7227756928QQcategoryZ64635QQtcZphotoQQc mdZViewItem)
That should get you started in the right direction...
