What game types are common on the fields here in Wisconsin? Thus far I've noticed that most of them are of the CTF variety or 'simulation' types. I'll admit that I'm more a fan of wooded/open field run and gun objective games in comparison to slow tactical advances.

As a suggested game type, that I have yet to see come up on the forums, is a type of linear base progression game that ends with one team in control of the whole field.

I've played this in my home city with my friends, and it makes for eventful extended skermishes, and some interesting hold outs. I'll describe it more in detail.

We've typically played with 3 'nodes' or 'bases' each base can be flagged for one team or the other. Each base is linear in series so that they can only be captured in a specific order. Each team fights between the bases making progress or giving ground. When a player is hit, they need to retreat to the nearest uncontested base/starting point and touch the flag before they can rejoin the fray. The first team to capture all of the objectives wins.

Illustration:

START T1 --> base <-----> base <-----> base <--- START T2

Only problems we've had with this is running out of ammo and batteries before the game ends. Pistol whipping was expressly forbidden, however we did try once with nerf swords as a 2ndary weapon.

so its like instant action on BF 1942, ok.

your game idea sounds interesting, A good idea may be to run it by a someone who has done some game hosting in the past such as Professor, Colonel maple, Mr. Crow, Kennedy, Myself Etc...... and they will help you hash out the plans to make a succesful skirm.

One thing the lot of WI airsofters seem to like are skirms with lots of objectives and generally a good storyline, or recreations of past battles. Every once and a while youll see a VN or WWII game, last year Prof put on BHD (Really sweet).
So if you have an idea for a good storyline to go along with the desired skirm setup that you already seem to have then you can draw more players.

So essentially work out how the game works (respawns captures etc...) then put together a storyline to fit (whats the point in fighting if your not fighting for anything). Dont be shy, ask for help if you need it. A good idea before you plan something is to read over a couple games setup and see what all needs to be included before the game can happen, also makesure you reserve a field before posting where it's gonna be at.

I would also reccomend attending a few games, get to know some team leads before you plan an OP, that way some people know who you are, they are more likely to show up if someone they know hosting it.

Good luck.

RR- I am making the assumption that since you are newer to the forums, you have yet to attend some of the bigger skirms. (Please take no offense, as none is meant)
For the most part, skirms are one of 3 types.
Paintsoft (very few objectives, lots of bb's in the air)
Run and Gun (medium amount of objectives, still lot's of bb's in the air)
Mil-Sim (heavy on the objectives side, varying amounts of bb's, sometimes very few at all)

With that said, given the limited budget that a lot of the "regular joe" players have, winter offers little in the way of Mil-Sim. (Since most people can't afford winter camo and such) Most of the games are RnG or P-soft. Both types can be fun, but are not everybodies cup of tea.

Now if you were around last spring and summer (?) there were all kinds of games going on. There were games similar to the one you suggested, there were basic capture the flag, a few good mil-sim games, etc. Unfortunately, over the last few months, most of the common event organizers have been relatively quiet on the OP front, so this winter has offer a little less variety. (Once again, no offense to anybody)

One thing to keep in mind is that all games for the most part can be boiled down to CTF. Whether it is literally a flag that you have to get, or a downed pilot or planting bombs somewhere, it's all a kind of "flag" that you are after. That is part of the reason that it is hard to think of OP mission. You want to do something fresh and different, which can often be hard. (I know, I have run 2 mediocre skirms in the last year)

As for your idea, go for it. Gary at WGRF is always willing to let people run a skirm. Drop him a PM if you want to try your hand at running a game. He'll work with you to make sure it turns out good.
Also, as Kade mentioned, check with some of the guys who have run skirms in the past. If you need a hand with an idea, they can be good resources.
Hope that sheds some light on skirm operations.

p.s. If you want to run a somewhat lame skirm, drop me a line. I can lend a hand in making sure your skirm turns out "okay" at best. :D

Thanks for the support.

I'm going to focus on getting connected to the community before I start trying to support skirmishes. I was just curious as to the types of games you guys play up here.
