Ok, so as I stated in my other thread, I'm interested in really getting into airsoft and currently in the market for a new gun.
Now I need to know more information about what I need to get started and playing. From what I've read, the AEC is only required for minors under the age of 18, right? I turned 18 last fall, so for most skirmishes I won't need the class, but are there some skirm's that require the class no matter what age you are?
Also, how would you guys suggest I start out to jump into battle? Other then hanging out here in the forums, is there something that I should do before just registering and showing up at some random skirmish?

I am 15 turning 16 very soon. I am going to take the AEC at the wgr skirmish this sunday. Even though your 18 doesnt mean you can't take the AEC maybe you will learn something new. This sunday is going to be my first skirmish. I already have a feeling that I will maybe make some new friends when I go.

The AEC is never required for people 18 and older. It is highly recommended for people of all ages.
As far as getting into it, pick an event and show up. Get there a little early so you can wander around, and introduce yourself. We've got a great crowd, and I would be surprised if you didn't get several invites to join up with them at any event.
Also, you can get to know people a bit by reading through the forums. Use the search function at the top of the page if you are looking for something that may be posted here. Check out the thread graveyard about what not to post, and don't ask what gun you should buy. The choices are yours.;)

Ya, I've pretty much read over what not to post. I know the gun is my choice. I hate it when people start asking me those kind of questions as well.... Nothing more annoying then the words, "What's the best?".
Just for clarification, the safety course that Gary is offering on Sunday is not an AEC. He is giving it as a supplement for playing at his field. This course will not give you your AEC certification or allow you to play at other fields that require AEC.
I belive he is running it in the interum until AECs are held on a more frequent basis. I just wanted to give you the heads up so you don't show up to a game that requires AEC and get turned away.

just come to the game, with at bare minimum:
cloths. (yeah, don't come naked...)
a weapon.(as long as it aint an LPEG or cheap springer/gas weapon your fine.)
some BBs (bring .2s for chronoing.)
and anything else you might want. BDUs are a +
sign up, and everything else will just fall into place.
