garyb
12 Jan 06, 05:57 AM
This game is being hosted by Van Queen, some of you met him at the game on the 8th. He is a vet of the Gulf war and this scenairo is a take off on an operation that he took part in.
This is what I have so far,
US Ranger units have been tasked to raid a Terroist Training/Drug manufacturing camp. The Rangers will need to capture prisoners, destroy the Drug plant and collect intel on weapons and equipment at the training camp.
More details will follow.
There will be a raffle at this game, possibably an AEG, and other items will be given away.

for arm bands why not just different colored tapes you could just wrap around a persons arm?

nemesis
17 Jan 06, 05:58 AM
i think if you want to work something out with arm bands you should bring a ton for your team and not try and convince an oc to do it if he wanted to do it he would do it already this is not paintball we dont have to do what paintballers do and wear bands the person who organizes the skirm will decide how to tell the different teams apart

knob
17 Jan 06, 06:47 AM
I think that using armbands will take away from the realism. Using the codes are alot more practical if you want to keep this more of a Milsim game.

Roadkill
17 Jan 06, 07:26 AM
Are there any types of camo requirements for certain teams yet? I think armbands would be kinda useful but cheesy, I am not one to talk but i personally like Mil-Sim games my self.

Vigilante
17 Jan 06, 07:46 AM
for arm bands why not just different colored tapes you could just wrap around a persons arm?

We had that at the game in Illinois, blue for americans, red for russians. They helped, but they also gave away the enemy too, just do to the fact those two colors stand out. You should learn who is all on your team and as people said, use codes and what not.

knob
17 Jan 06, 08:51 AM
Well it wont be so bad if the colors are subdued(sp) to a color that basicaly blends in better.

Beasthunter33
17 Jan 06, 10:13 AM
I dont know if any of you guys realize but in real militaries most have their countries flag sewn onto the sleeve of their uniforms. Kind of obvious, not as much as a hot pink armband but the idea does have some base in reality.

demonmutiny
17 Jan 06, 10:17 AM
yah, but umm little prob with htoughs flags... were all in america right now, so i would think if we had a u.s flag, we all would..... just saying.... and for the armband i have no prob with them, if your seen because of it, well its gonna happen sooner or later and mostly you will see there armband

nemesis
17 Jan 06, 11:37 AM
just for your info when another person kills an american soldier and steals thier uniform they have an american flag on thier arm too or does he take it off??? cuz i am pretty sure that he does not call a time out to sew his countries flag on his arm

Doc
17 Jan 06, 11:52 AM
Most games have assigned camo types for each team. If someone doesn't have the camo type for their team because they don't have the camo or have to dress for cold weather, I think earthtone colored armbands would be a good idea.

NATHANIELJONESTHUGANGEL
17 Jan 06, 11:54 AM
As someone else said, if the armbands are like forest green, or brown or something like that it would be fine, but running around with orange, red, blue, brighter green, well really a lot of other color armbands would be lame.

Fish
17 Jan 06, 11:57 AM
How many american soldiers uniforms are really stolen off the dead body? Gear i can understand but the actual bloody clothes?

nemesis
17 Jan 06, 12:27 PM
more than you think and not ever one who gets shot is automatically in a blood covered uniform

its just a proposition, i dont post here to argue with people. if you want to shout code words thats fine, i'm used to it, lets not drag the thread on about this subject.

Ben
18 Jan 06, 07:55 AM
I really think we should at least TRY the armband idea. I mean it isnt realisitic to have somalian terrorists wearing woodland camo either. I dont see what the big deal in wearing different color armbands like black and brown would be. Even if it isnt a USA VS. Terrorist game, maybe a USA VS. USSR, there still would be different uniforms in real life. And dont tell me that every foot soldier pics clothes off the enemies in the battlefield and puts them on. As for the different camo for different teams, that never has really worked. No one has a big enough collection of different camos to work so you always get exceptions to the uniform. I think for the most realism we should have both team camoflage distinguising AND armbands of neutral colors like black green or brown.

nemesis
18 Jan 06, 08:23 AM
No One Said Every Soldier Picks Uniforms Off Of Dead But It Does Happen

but if the person putting on the game wants to do that then he should prepare it... it really isnt up to us

i think you should message the person who is making the game and make the comment instead of trying to publicly change his game on him

and i am not going to wait untill you are 10 ft in front of me so i can pick out the color of your arm band that prolly blends in with your uniform to shoot you. chances are you will still need codes with colors so close to the backround.

Professor
18 Jan 06, 08:42 AM
Unfortunately, as of late in places like Iraq and Afghanistan, there are many instances of dead US soldiers bodies being stripped for their uniforms so the enemy can use them to imposter US forces.

Now, given that so what...the arm band issue is like a "holy war" for some...I like MACs and I like MS Windows as an example. For whatever reason the outcome has been to default to uniform differences and codes to distinguish friend or foe. Which in many cases does replicate "real battle" scenarios in which the enemy can look like your forces or vice versa. I don't disagree that some kind of arm band concept would reduce friendly fire incidents, but there are enough people that don't want to use them. Both sides of the equation have valid points.

Finally, if you want to use arm bands then fine. Either do so amongst your team or be the person that is setting up the skirmish and make them a requirement. Those who don't mind wearing them will show up for it and those that don't won't.

Ben
18 Jan 06, 09:36 AM
I wasnt trying to change the rules of this game or command gary to use armbands i was just saying since it's never been tried maybe some people could at least try it once. I know in other states armbands are extremely common and default for some places. I'm just sick of being at games and then people abusing the "fog of war" and making the game more unrealistic.

Professor
18 Jan 06, 09:49 AM
Hey Ben...I wasn't saying you were. I understand your feelings. Sorry if my comment came off wrong...it wasn't intended that way. My comment wasn't even specificaly targeted at you, but basically a comment to the thread as a whole.

Fish
18 Jan 06, 09:54 AM
After stumbling into the enemy camp at RR due to a misunderstanding on the radio, I am happy for a lack of armbands. It saved me a word of hurt for all of umm.... three seconds.

DKruse
18 Jan 06, 09:59 AM
On orginal topic: Gary, will an AEC be required? (I know you were saying you may be requiring it, so thought i'd ask before saying we are coming :P )

On second "arm band" topic: At an event (forgot which one) we actually used some green duct tape and put it on our shoulder for two teams of the entire huge team (it wasn't a full roll, so we ran out) but it was only a 2x2 in square, nothing complicated/too unreal.

garyb
18 Jan 06, 10:43 AM
As for the AEC question, if you have not had the AEC please contact me and I will set up my supplemental safety briefing. This will take about 20 minutes before the start of the game. This if for anyone under 18 who has not had the AEC, anyone over 18 may take this if they wish.
The armband topic has been taken into acount, it will not be used at this coming game, but possibably for certain games in the future.
Any further comments can be taken to its own thread, please.

Lightning Fast 09
18 Jan 06, 01:47 PM
hey Gary is there any new information on the skirmish yet?

garyb

All further intel will be given out at the game on the 29th.
Teams will be assigned at that time.

nemesis
21 Jan 06, 05:38 AM
aww man we cant reserve spots on teams?

garyb
21 Jan 06, 06:06 AM
You can put in a request, but from what Van told me there will be an attacking side on the first game then reverse roles on next skirmish.

garyb
23 Jan 06, 05:59 AM
Anyone with sniper rifles may want to bring them for this skirmish. They will be put to good use, the proper way. If you have one and want to use it let me know. We will need several sniper teams.

Ameoba Grande
23 Jan 06, 02:54 PM
I know this sounds noobish but once we get to the field where would we sign up and gear up exactly?

Vigilante
23 Jan 06, 02:56 PM
Well you can gear up anywhere in the safe zone, I usually hog a picnic table under the thing. Only myself and I and a friend use that picnic table, but first come first serve, sign up is at the red shack right before the entrance to the field itself. Gary will be standing inside, if this isnt clear enough, just ask one of us there and we will point u in the right direction.

24 Jan 06, 04:51 AM
Just wanted to let Gary know that we will have a few coming up from baraboo, possibly 4-6. We would require the mini-AEC at the beginning before we can start the game though, if that is an option.

I wanted bring up the idea of us bringing our medic armbands to the event. We used white armbands to heal people that were hit at the first Blood Gulch (i think it was blood gulch) and I believe it worked out pretty well. I'm not a big fan of the deck of cards medic rules, so I wanted to ask Gary how he will handle regens in the game on Sunday. Even if we don't use them, I will bring them just in case (we have a red nylon bag with TONS of white strips of cloth for bandages).

My team will be showing up dressed in woodland and using basic Army equipment, but we will also be bringing some second hand clothing to throw on if we are the OPFOR. Maybe if everyone brings some crappy old clothes we can start an OPFOR stash at some fields. :P

Anyone needing the Safety course please get there as soon as possible then let me know when you do get there. This will take about 20-25 minutes.
You can bring your medic armbands if you wish however I dont know if you will need then I believe that Van said they would be no regends, but several different phases in the game.

A couple of my team who are right on the IL/WI border may be coming up to this game. I met a few of you guys at the last CAA game (I was the Russian team leader- Ivan Drago aka Destro).

I would come myself but I don't have a babysitter- not to mention I'll wait for a bigger game to do the 3 hour + each way trip. Just figured I'd let you know a couple of my guys are probably heading up your way Sunday.

Cheers!
