View Full Version : Maple's thoughts about 2005

So once again, I am sitting at work and don't feel like actually doing my work. So, instead of being productive, I thought I would post my thoughts on 2005 WI airsoft. Call me a softy, but I have a lot of good and bad memories from this past year. Please, if I mention your name, it's a good thing, I'm not trying to take a shot at you...... unless we are on the field.

First off, 2005 brought us a whole new crop of players. Some good (Dogboy, where you at), some bad, some memorable (got to give a shout out to Gruzniak, as I will never forget the fanny pack), some forgetable. All in all, I have met many of you on the field and formed friendships with the majority of you and rivalries with a few of you. I hope in 2006, I can swallow my pride and make friends with those I have butted heads with in the past.

Along with the new players, we have seen a whole new crop of ego's pop up, only to be deflated once they hit the field. We can't all be leet sniper's (save for RIOT, those guys got some tasty gas rifles)
Besides the new crop, a ton of veteran players returned in 2005. It was great to meet you guys, most noteably Kenuch. You and the Horsies are #1 in my book. (If you don't know them, take a minute to introduce yourself, they are some of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.)

We also saw a whole new batch of tasty aeg's on the field. Thanks to Bob Kranker and Timmay for providing us with some eye candy. :]

2005 also brought us a whole bunch of new teams. Tiger Recon popped up and cleaned house on several occasions. DRASI reared up and showed what a small team can do. (Sneaky morkers) RIOT formed and showed us that gas rifles hurt like hell. Fox disappated only to return as those smart alec guys known as GOD. (Bastards shot me up on my best death charge) There's a ton more new teams, so I will just tip my hat to all of you. (Take no offense for not being listed, my memory is bad)

All of the old teams were back on the scene. Prof and those crumpet eaters snuck around the woods only to pop up at the least opportune times. Group W hit the field to show us how a well oiled field team operates. TFD, well, they're just TFD. ;)

Whether you believe it or not, the WAA made some great strides this year to try and further airsoft in WI. They continue to work for WI airsofters and I hope those of you who aren't members will reconsider. The more you support the WAA, the better airsoft in WI will be. (They also hosted an ass-kicking event this past summer. It brings a smile to my face just thinking about it.)

2005 had numerous great events. Mr. Crow put on two awesome days of airsoft. First was Fallen Angel, where Omega 1 showed the non-believers what a well oiled team can accomplish. We're not sorry for playing with your trust Bosnia. Second was Bounty Hunter Wars. Jun Wen and the Triad were the highlight of the day. (Sorry for the twisted ankle Timmay, but it was worth making you run)
Apoc. hosted two greaty days. Rubber Ducky (who knew playing a Canadian could be that much fun) and Cartel Wars. (If you weren't there, that's okay. Last thing I need is another person reminding me of how I led our team to defeat)
Prof. helped us recreate BHD and we all liked it. TFD and the Ranger crew showed us "skinnies" that no matter how many of us there are, they are going to mow us down. Circus showed us that there is a place for a Lincoln on the field, but I still think it wasn't fair, as his car is bigger than an APC. ;)
dark Knight hosted a whole slew of games, all of which were fun as hell. If you haven't been to the Lair, I suggest you go.

2005 also saw me try hosting a pair of games. I learned a lot from both and i hope to bring you a even better game next year. If you haven't hosted a game yet, give it a try. You'll find it to be rewarding in the end.

I could go on and on, but I think I will end the nostalga here. I pose this to all of you. Let's try to make 2006 even better than 2005. Take a chance and join the WAA and help make a difference. Host a game. Learn some trigger control :o. Make sure to play nice and especially safe. (Watch the blind fire gang) Let's try to get some Mil-sim games going, rather than the traditional run and gun games. Let's travel to IL and play against some different people. Let's donate some money (and time) to the Lair. Let's show up in force for Red Venom 2.

I close with this, whether your political views fall to the right or the left, pray for the safe return of our troops overseas.
If you go out for New Year's, drive safe. Even if you are sober, the guy in the car next to you may not be. If you are drinking, don't drive. Last thing we need to do is start the New Years with tragedy.
I guess I've rambled on long enough. I'll see all of you on the field in 2006. Watch out, this is the year I promised myself I'll actually learn how to play airsoft, rather than just look good doing it.

I wanted to add this, it was a great year at the WGF. I want to thank everyone who came out for games, and to those who put on the games at the field. I really enjoyed getting into the Hobby and I learned a lot about it.
I plan on adding a lot of new structures to include a CQB building in the spring. There will be many new and exciting games coming in the next year, with games planned for every two weeks.
Thanks gary

Thanks for the kind words Maple. I love putting on games. FA 2 is written and being planned as we speak. And I definatly thing Bounty Hunter wars was a blast, but I need to tighten it up a tad. A little bit too much straying on that one.

I would like to say again a great year with Tiger Recon. A great group of guys not only on but off the field.

I am looking forward to all of the neat ideas people come up with for 06. It should be a great year

I am also looking forward to 06. My first game was Rubber Ducky and I had a blast, been to just about every game since then. I really really enjoyed bounty hunter wars alot, thanks Crow for putting that one on. I am looking forward to BHW 2. I am looking to airsofting for quite a while. Have a safe and happy new year all.

Looking forward to seeing you all in 2006.

Yes 2005 was a great year. My first game, OP: Rubber Ducky, i was with Gruzniak and during that first battle in the little woodland house area i seriously thought i was going to die for real. I was just sitting there with my Well M4 springer next to Venus i think, I didnt even get one shot off in the first 7 minutes before i was killed. Man, BHD was a great game also. My first game with an AEG, I was a Somalian wearing an Iron Maiden t-shirt and some weird belt thing for my extra hicap, if you can call it that, for my UTG MP5.

some well heart felt thoughts there, and maybe he'll go on to write a book about his airsoft expierences and make millions! lol ;) it was indeed a great year everyone and hopefully we've all learned and moved on and will have yet another. personally, the one part i liked most about you saying is that the waa made great strides in furthering airsoft in wi, thank you for that, and all their members.

happy new year all and good luck to everyone next year

Yeah 2005 was awesome, I started playing airsoft, and went from shooting targets at 15 feet in my basement with a CYMA Ak-47 krinkoff, to finally getting out to some real skirmishes including my first real skirmish Rubber Ducky (yes, Randy was right the first battle was quite the possibly the most amazing thing i've ever experienced with plastic whizzing by my head at 350 fps, and me having no idea as to what I was doing, or what was going on), and also BHD which gave me an oppurtunity to introduce one of my friends to the game, as well as even hosting my first game at WGF (while land grab only had 12 participants, me and everyone involved seemed to have loads of fun, so i've deemed it a success), also Maple, thanks for labeling me as "memorable" even if it was mostly for the fanny pack ;) .

Two of my favorite moments of the 2005 season were durring Cartell Wars.

1. I marched my team (DEA) directly through the middle of a large firefight between the two cartells. Both teams stopped firing & let us walk through. It was weird. It was like we had a foce field, there was fire in front & behind us but no-one fired into our little "bubble".

2. As the DEA team walked through an area controlled by one of the cartells, I passed 2 guys in a bunker. I heard the following conversation.
Guy 1: "No don't shoot at them!"
Guy 2: "Why not?"
Guy 1: "Because that's the DEA team. If you shoot at them they will turn around and kill us all."

Who knew such a small team could be so effective & strike fear into the hearts of so many people?

I'll second Maple for the newsletter committee!

Well done there Col. I appreciate yer ramblings. I must say thanks for your comments about BHD, even though it had an "all plans go out the window once the first bullet wizzes by" kinda outcome. I truly hope all enjoyed it. I feel it wasn't my best effort...as a matter of fact, I kinda liked Takur Ghar betta, meself. I can't wipe tha sight of "two helos being shot out of tha air during insertion and people crawling about providing covering fire and medicating dead players" out of me mind.

This year has seen a continued growth of people who are learning to appreciate our sport like we do. New players and new teams have popped up. I believe we all, especially us "ole timers" have an opportunity here to "lead tha way".

Other than that, I hope and pray that this years "activities" leads towards a betta Airsoft New Year and finds us all trying to get along betta in the future.

I hadn't seen maple do a really good asskissing post in quite some time, so it was good to see you puckering up again. i am kidding of course.

What I would like to see in 2006 is more hebrew based scenarios. Like these potential winners

Operation Burning Bush. Airsoft battle during a brushfire. Dangerous yes, but can you see the press coverage.

The big egypt escape. This would need to be an apoc event as we would need Maple to part the pond.

Operation Hannukah: 8 day op with 1000 rounds per player.

Operation Telaviv Market: Go from vendor to vendor tring to get the lowest price on airsoft goods.

Seder Wars: You must recite a hebrew prayer and drink a glass of wine everytime you get shot. Dangerous yes, but can you see the press coverage.

Hasidic Diamond merchant diamond wars: Everone must wear curly sideburns and replace their red dot with a loop.

And Finally!

The dradel Challenge. Players must spin around 100 times and then do a swat style skills course.

Now thats some Judicious fun.

I third the Maple for writing the newsletter idea. Reading yours, and everyone else's posts, reminds me of why I play. Although it was a bumper year for FOX/GOD I must say I owe Maple a great thanks as his sale to me has made the year just that much better. Oh yea I just order 3 more hicaps :D can't wait to see everyone soon.

All in all, 2005...

*Went to alot of games at WGF, my team hosted some and learned from them.
*Sold my old gun, got 2 more and decked them out!
*Got some people interested in airsoft
*Created a team from the solid people/friends i knew and added a few more to the roster along w/ friendships.
*Took some team/friendly fire, and gave some.
*Sustained my first injury in airsoft, a sprained ankle (lapacz, im not counting the 5 ft. incident).
*Finally, learned alot more about airsoft in general and met some really cool/nice people.

~Neways, cheers all; Happy New Year!

2005 for MERT was a great year. Held a few Op's (Op: Deep Freeze, Op: Shadow, and Op: Trick or Treat) brought on a top notch player (Flea) and joined forces with the Elite Dragons.

On the downside, didn't get to make it to a number of games because of work, but we are looking forward to the games of 2006. With RV II and FA II in the works, it is looking like a great year for airsoft in the making.

On a personal note, getting my P-90, figuring out my load out, and getting a lot accomplished with MERT, 2005 will go down as the year to beat for personal achievement on the team.

I would like to thank everyone that participated in the Op's, you made them what they were and I thank you. I look forward to the coming year so I can meet more of you and work alongside some of the best players. Here is to 2006, may it be all we want and more than we need. ;)

I would most deffinatly have to agree that 2005 was most excellent. I learned about airsoft in july, and instantly fell head over heels for it. I never in my life thought that such sports were around and I am thanking my lucky stars that there are. I joined the best team in the world and I think its safe to say, that some of the best days ever are spent with your team!! You could get shot in the ear, nose, sprain your ankle, fall on you face and have to sit in close proximity to a guy that didnt wear enough deoderant, but at the end of the day you go home and say.... "That was f#$%ing great!" And thats exactlly what I did after BHD. That was so awesome. I have two great memories from that game.

One was when I banged (no comments please) a delta and 3 rangers in a room and caught them completly off guard. Those faces were priceless.

The second was when I did a 30 min stalk and got half way through the american territory before they hit me. It didnt even matter that I only got one guy. But haveing 3 oc's watch the whole thing, and applaud you when you get up to respawn. Thats one of the best moments ever!!

So I guess in closing, this year was awesome and I cant wait for spring semester to be over so we can get back on the field! See you all there!!! :D

2005 saw the Pale Horse Regiment take to the field more than ever before, which was still a little less than occasionally... but what matters is that we had more fond memories than can be counted!!

Cartel Wars - I went home with a sweet black hat, thank you Mr. Crow, (and that surrounding aura of coolness was cool, but that might have actually been Dogboys cologne!~!

Blackhawk Down - that great footage of most ya'll that I cut down to a swell little video, (I still show off to my friends)!

I would want to name off the callsigns that I love seeing on my team and hate seeing that I'm against, but I'd forget to many and be ashamed of myself. Maple, thanks for the thread and the humility and humor both on and off the field, it's refreshing...

Cheers,
Kenuch
