View Full Version : Gun Camo?

I seen some of you have your guns completely covered in some sort of camoflague(sp?), but did you do it yourself, or did you have someone else do it?
I am just wondering, because when I get my AK back, I plan on spraypainting over the faux wood parts with a dark dark forest green, and then spraypainting some kind of russian camo on there to make my AK more unique and stand out. So I am wondering if you had your guns done, or you did them yourselves.

the camo paint is chipping off the front of the gun, so make sure you can prevent that. and sorry for the massive pic, and the sock. :D

hmm I have a question that goes with this, during the Winter days, does it matter the color of your gun ? for example all my weapons are Ivory Black ( odd aye ? lol) will it jump out, or would it just morely blind(sp?) in with the snowscape ?

No, but generally the darker colors are better for summer, lighter for winter, unless you spraypaint yours like every season. Stop hijacking my thread lol.
I dont know what Ivory black looks like, put a pic up!
Many users (including military ops) use Bowflage Paint as it can be cleaned off the gun. You can get several colors such as tan, green, white, gray, black, etc.
I know several players who use white electrical tape on their guns for winter play. You can get just about any color of eletrical tape in some of the larger home improvement stores. There are also small sample packs available at most gorcery and hardware stores.
Another buddy of mine takes different camo materials and makes a rifle cover. He then covers the edges with handlebar tape so that it retains a tacky gripping surface. He always make special cuts in the areas such as the selector switch/safety, hop adjustment area, magazine release, or other areas that he would need access to a control.
If you want a professional finish try Lauer custom finishes. They are located in wisconsin, and can do just about any finish.
I might make up a few frisket film stencils and airbrush some camo onto my gun. Stencils work well with spray cans too. Thats would be the most cost efficent way of applying camo.

Do you know how much they would charge to do my AK?
No. You will have to Google the site, then give them a call. Or just click the link. I have seen their work in person, and its the cats meow. Just be aware thats its permenent. (sp?)

personally I don't think Gun Camo is needed, I couldn't see anyone's gun while we were out there, I payed more attention to leg movement, and large movement in general, especially with the snow being moved around from the trees above lol. Great thing about those stealth missions lol, teaches ya to look more then shoot.

i think some one who paints there gun just is doing it cuz they want there gun to look pretty.. lol just kidding guys
i dont use gun camo because i dont see any use for it... if i am sitting still it is going to be because i am in an area where you are not going to see me to begin with so why would my gun need to be camo? lie on the ground and keep the gun down and no one will see it untill you shoot at them...
camo or not i will see it when it starts to shoot at me... just follow the noise

Well, I dont really like the fake wood stock on the AK, I dont want to dish out that much money for the real wood either...
I agree. While it might be novel to have a camo gun, the way most of us carry them on a 3 point sling or cradled close to the center mass while moving, they really dont show. I can understand maybe if you are trying to hide something huge like a Barrett 50 cal, but Sigs, M4s, and alot of other weapons are pretty small.
BTW, if you dont like the fake wood look, why not invest in a set of plastic furniture. My guess is that a AK74 set in black will fit a airsoft gun. Depending where the battery is stored, you might need to modify it a bit. But a full plastic set would only run about 50 bucks on the surplus market, and then you could have the distinction of having real steal furniture on your airsoft AK.

Heh...you forgot to grab an updated picture with your cheap scope painted...that i cracked with a springer Desert Eagle :D
To be honest, camo on a weapon has always been an iffy subject with me. Main thing, if you use any tape or anything with an adheasive, it gunks up the outside of your weapon. Paint, well, to be honest I was never really good at painting. But anywho I found this weapon camo that might fit the bill for a future weapon. I can't remember where I saw it, but it looks almost like a compression bandage and you wrap it around the weapon. Environment changes, you unwrap the old camo and wrap on a new one. I thinks I saw it at Brigade Quartermaster, but I can't be sure.

Awesome, I dont see a point in camo either, it is just that I don't really care for the fake wood grip on the AK, that's all. I am gettin neat ideas though for painting a scheme on the stock and grip though.

I mostly like the look of a camoed gun. I really dont see having a camoed gun would make you invisible. If the person looks for the gun and not the airsoft then maybe it would help

blind(sp?)
blend.
Personally, gun camo isn't really necessary, but it can be nice. Black, however, itsn't all that bad. The only real problem with it is that, if you are a sniper, there could be a problem with easy detection by your gun, especially if you go to the trouble of wearing a ghillie suit. It shouldn't be too hard, just be careful not to get it anywhere you want it. You might want to try experimenting with non-permanent coloring to test it out.

I may be late as usual, but if you want to try camo without painting, there is a spandoflage camo that yout can get at Fleet Farm. Basically it is an expandable camoflage sock that you slide over the gun. Then all you have to do is cut out around your trigger assembly, selector switch, sights, and mag well. It isn't very expensive, and it would give you a pretty good idea of what your gun would look like if you were to paint.

you can actually buy coverings for your guns that are camo but they look cheasy. as for spray paint, i wouldnt suggest it unless you want to tape every open part of your gun or you're just doing a foregrip or stock. idk theres really no need for camo on your gun, black works fine unless you're jsut goin for looks then whatever.

camo looks cool but theres no point for it at all cuz black is hard enough to see unless ur in snow and u paint ur gun white but then it sucks for summer

Yes, that is what DogBoy is talking about.
Thanks for all the input everyone!
If you guys are looking for camo coverup for your gun and you dont want to paint your gun, you can buy a pack or two of camo tape.. Its kinda just like Athletic tape but with less adhesive... The plus about this tape is its not shiny, and you can change to different patterns depending on the season.. As far as tape leaving gunk on the gun, you can just buy some rubbing alchohol.. and rub the gun down..
The tape you can just pick up at fleet farm for like 3 bucks a roll...
if you can see my gun, you will see what it sorta look like with the pattern i have on now.. Im on the bottom row in the blue pull over...
